To all the replies.....the post was to inform iPhone users that despite what some have conveyed online not everyone receives a free screen replacement...geez.

I did not feel entitled for a free replacement due to the negligent drop. I simply wish that Apple was consistent with their policies on these screen replacements.
Amazing the flames here! How dare you, haha. I think Apple gave free replacements early to deflect the bad rap the iPhone 4 was getting for it's all glass construction. Once the sales figures showed people were buying it in droves regardless, they stopped the free replacements.

Wow....that LifeCase looks incredible. I wonder if it's less bulky than the OtterBox.

You mean the kind of character someone has when they don't try and get something for nothing, understand it's at the store's discretion, accept their decision and don't start a thread whining about it then try and pull their foot out of their mouth by stating Apple should be more consistent? That kind of character?

Please, just stop with the excuses. First, it's Apple should be consistent now you should be able to drop an iPhone without it breaking. Jeez.

Krandor, it is practical...unless it gets dropped. Her phone broke the first time it was dropped.

lol

So if the phone only breaks the second time its dropped then it's ok? It depends how the (any) phone is drop and land. It doesn't matter if it's first or second time dropping it.

Why don't you throw your iphone into a swimming pool. If it doesn't work on the first throw then it's not practical.

Krandor, it is practical...unless it gets dropped. Her phone broke the first time it was dropped.

then don't drop it... Apple never claimed it would survive being dropped.

and anyway plastic cracks when dropped as well, so whats the difference between an iPhone and any other phone?

I understand what the OP is trying to say.

A Glass covered phone! Really? Yes, looks cool but not practical! Lets face it, their presentation was nice but if this was aircraft quality super duper glass, it would not break from a simple drop.

I also agree that special consideration can be made for those customer that purchase allot of Apple products and not just the iPhone. A customer who has a house full of Macs, iPods, iPads and Apple TV is a great customer and Apple will not lose money on helping them out once. Maybe a $50 replacement fee instead of $200.

Best Buy implemented the Silver Rewards program and now I receive better treatment and exceptions on normal store policies because they recognize how much I spend annually as a customer. Who dose not appreciate being recognized for their loyalty!

A few iPods and macs do not constitute special consideration. There are clients that spend tens of thousands on a monthly basis. If anyone is given special consideration, it would be those clients. In my experience, they are treated the same as everyone else though. It is consistent policy. Apple do not owe you anything and if you break it, you pay for it. $200 is already more than 50% off the price.

The iPhone does utilise aircraft quality glass. Go to google and look up aircraft glass. Compare the thickness to that of the iPhone. It is thicker than the iPhone. I can guarantee if you drop a plane from the height of normal use, that'll break too.

I'm not trying to pile on you like everyone else, here, but I thought I'd ask:

Did you not realize the first time the phone was in your hands that "Uh, this thing probably won't sustain drops"? I have an EVO and I'm certain it wasn't build for dropping. I'd say the only thing you should ever look at and say "Wow, I can beat the crap outta this thing" is a military spec'd Nextel phone. You want cool and flashy? DO NOT DROP IT. Period.

Fanboy alert.

Yes I'm sure if you drop an F16 canopy from 3ft it would shatter

Aircraft windows are designed to stay intact from a birdstrike hitting them at hundreds of miles an hour, a bit different from a phone. Of course most aircraft windows are actually plastic, the few that are glass also have plastic layers in them as plain old glass isn't tough enough.

Hopefully the next iphone will have a plastic back again as all glass is just too unforgiving.
