Apple is offering up to a five-month free trial of Apple Music to new users of the streaming service, with the promotion appearing in the company's Shazam music identification app.

Apple usually offers up to a three-month free trial of Apple Music to users who haven't subscribed to the service before, so this latest promotion represents one of its best deals yet.

To access the promotion, download the Shazam app on your iPhone or iPad, then identify a song that's playing in your environment by tapping the big Shazam icon in the app. After recognizing the song, you should see the option to play the track in Apple Music.

Tap the option and you should see the five-month free trial offer of Apple Music appear. Some users have also had success activating the promotion by opening Shazam's options screen and tapping the Apple Music banner.

According to Shazam's App Store page, the offer runs through January 17, 2021, and is available in the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Canada, and other countries.

If after activating the deal you're not convinced, you can cancel your Apple Music subscription without losing your five months of access to the service.
Shazam is a free download from the App Store [Direct Link].

Let Spotify live lol 😬

Is this unavailable for current subscribers?

Edit: Never mind, it’s not but I’ll cancel and resubscribe and hopefully get 2 months free 🤞🏻

My three month trial just ended two days ago and I got two months trial now. Great, thank you.

Great. At least they are offering free trials to those who subscribed previously. Google gives you ice and winter if you already tried their music service. Even giving you nothing when you buy an expensive speaker or phone saying they will give you YTM for a year but if you ever had it you get nothing. Amazon does the same with their music service too.

I’ve done so many trials over the years just to see the state of Apple Music and it still doesn’t make me want to switch from Spotify.
On another note (I don’t know if this was already reported), they’re also offering 3 months for Apple Arcade with a new purchase of an Apple device. Got an iPhone 12 Pro yesterday and noticed the offer at the top in Settings.

I guess there are a lot of people trying right now, I can't even get Shazam to recognize my music...it takes forever !
SoundHound works immediately as it used to do Shazam..

It worked for 1 minute and then when it opened Music the 5 months shrunk to 3 , I don't like tricks.
Dear Tim you can keep it 😝
I lived for so long without ..no need to change it now.

All the music streaming services are so similar, I don't know why there'd be any expectation for people to switch between them. This isn't like video streaming where everyone has unique shows (and actually, there seems to be very little overlap between streaming services.)

How many people remain who haven't yet signed up for any of these services but will still end up signing up for one of them?

Mine says 3 months free. And I don't find any "options screen" in Shazam, unless you mean Preferences. And no "Apple Banner" anywhere. Not sure why I would want Apple Music anyway. I have Amazon Music Unlimited, which provides about 70 million more songs than I ever actually listen to.

Same marketing strategy used by drug pushers
You know, I think that thing about drug pushers starting people on a little so they can sell a lot later is mostly myth. In my observation, drug dealers provide what people ask for and when their customers like what they buy, they naturally buy more, like anything else.

If I never signed up for the 3 month trial, what happens after I activate these 5 months? Will the 3 month trial disappear?

Don't worry the 5 months are just an illusion: when you click on it you will end up in Music where there are only 3 months.
Al least it's happening to me and to another friend of mine. And both of us never signed up for any trial, ever!

Pretty sure the cancellation is immediate now and that advice is no longer valid?

Edit: nope, still good. Apple TV trials don’t continue, though.
Not sure but this didnt work for me. I cancelled immediately and now i dont have access to 3 months free service. I only got 3 months though i never trialled the service in the past.

Edit: Since i had never sub to the 3 month trial before so cancelling that cancelled the whole trial period for me. Then later i tried Shazam again it gave me 2 months of trial which as mentioned can be cancelled. Little pissed that i lost 3 months lol.

Apple Music still doesn’t measure up to Spotify in terms of features. Namely, one feature in particular: Spotify Connect. It’s also supported on more platforms than Apple Music. I can seamlessly transfer a song playing on my phone to my Mac mini or my Xbox. There are even wireless speakers that support the feature.

Oh my god, thank you. I just saw a news story and they mentioned drug pusher. Drugs sell themselves. The idea of a "pusher" hunting down the innocent and victimizing people is old.
