who all uses this app? I heard all you do is shake the phone to get the name and lyrics. Does it have to be open or at least a complication?

I've used it to try it out, but don't routinely have a need to Shazam. I was able to get lyrics on my watch with it.

I use it sometimes but find it errors out a lot telling me I need to allow microphone access to the app on the phone first, which already is enabled.

I believe the watch app for Shazam is using the microphone from your phone to 'listen' to the song you're hearing (as per their website, it's been saying that since the app came out). Since my phone is buried in my pocket most of the time, I've had pretty bad experience using this app from the watch, and generally found out that in the end I had to pull the phone out of the pocket and point its microphone towards the sound source.
