I'm not sure if she is going to be using AutoCad, but that's what she told me and I am going to take her word for it. She's already been in the program for two years, so I'm guessing she knows what software she is using.

Sounds like the Thinkpad is the right choice. The campus bookstore near me sells them so I think we will go take a look at them and see what she thinks.

Thanks so much for all the advice! I'll let you know what she decides!

You can hardly go wrong with Lenovo, but I've always hated that eraser style mouse. Give me a Trackpad or you can keep the blasted machine.

But IBM keyboards are the best :p Plus those guys are well known for that 'ball in the middle' style mouse. Heh, just all preference I guess.

iv heard good things about the thinkpad, but i think id rather opt for a used mbp, even the older ones are still pretty powerful, should be able to take most things you throw at it (not literally, it might peel:p)

Dont get a Mac if you are architect, because autocad is a Windows only app, so get a nice cheap PC, dont waste money to get a mac if you are using windows.

Heard of Boot Camp?

Easily restart in Windows XP for when AutoCAD is needed, and for everything else, use OS X. The OP did say she liked his Mac.
