So what does this mean? Will I get it on the 14th? or later? I ordered at apple.com/ca last night at around 12:45 pacific time. Does it mean that it will ship on the 14 and i will get it on the 17th? or get it at 14th? It's my first time to pre-order.

    Thanks.

We had the same discussions (in the UK at least) about deliveries of the first iPad...

The AppleStore page showed "Ships By [launch date]" which got a lot of people worried that they would get it after the launch date (if it was shipped on launch day, a Friday, a next-working-day delivery would be Monday). In the end, most people (me included) took delivery of their pre-ordered iPad the day before the official launch day.

Apple work closely with the couriers to control when their pre-ordered launch products are delivered to customers. There was speculation that the large number of iPads to be delivered on launch day was going to cause the couriers logistical problems, so (it was thought) Apple authorised the start of delivery a day early (to give the couriers two days to make deliveries).

Hopefully the same might happen this time.

My confirmation email says "Delivers Oct. 14" not "ships by."

I think in the US, it says Delivers on 14th Oct.

In other countries, it says Ships by 14th Oct.
I am basing this on my own UK preorder and the above mentioned Canadian one, although I might be completely wrong.

Same for me. BTW, I've never used the gift message. Does it come printed on a nice little card? Does it delay it by a day ? :p

As in past releases the iPhones will be sent to the shipper (FedEx) with instructions to not deliver until the 14th.

You people who live out in the boonies may not see it till Monday as FedEx does not deliver all country routes on a daily basis. This all happened last time and I am sure it will happen again.

There were some mighty pissed suburbanites!

I received my iPhone4 by FedEx a day prior to the official availability date. I remember reading that several others also received it the day before.

For those of you who received an iPhone 4 prior to or on the launch date, are you guys in the US?

I wish I can get it on the 14th too. In Australia here and mine says "Ships by October 14th".
