Shipping Date for New iPad Orders Slips to April 12th, Apple Ends Reservation Program

With the iPad launch just a week away, Apple appears to be running out of its initial supply of the devices as the company has pushed the expected shipping date for new Wi-Fi iPad orders to April 12th from the previous April 3rd date. Orders for Wi-Fi + 3G models continue to show a projected shipping date of late April.

Apple has also removed the iPad reservation program from its site. The program allowed consumers to reserve a Wi-Fi iPad for pickup at their local Apple retail store on the launch day of April 3rd. Customers with reserved iPads have been told to come to their retail location between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM on launch day to pick up and purchase their device. Once that window has passed, unclaimed iPads will be returned to general stock.

Maybe this hints for a new MacBook Pro release (at the same time as the iPad, as be visible down in a small window at the site and the iPad in a huge box! ...)

So they want it to be the at the same time released, or something...
(like the iMac 16:9 and the new Unibody white MacBook)
 
That's great news! A few weeks of preorders satiates most of the masses - and now Apple can drum up even more hype around limited availability!! :p
 
Mine still says Delivery: April 3rd. Whoo Hoo! I'm starting to get a nervous tic on my left side. This waiting is bad for my health.
 
Don't be silly, it has no Flash, and it's nothing but a big iPod touch, and nobody is interested in it, and it has no camera, and, and, and... did I cover all the anti-Apple comments that flood this site?

Millions of these devices will be sold in 2010. The tablet era is underway.

I believe this shipping date slip is for new orders only. If you've already ordered your iPad it will still be available a week from today as scheduled.

Ordered mine last night...got pretty lucky apparently as mine still is scheduled for April 3rd delivery...Ordered at 10:30PM EST

The release date is still April 3rd. the article says that of you didn't pre-order or reserve your iPad by now, it will now be on a first-come-first-served basis at the Apple Store or if you order online, it won't ship till april 12th.
 
Good thing I pre-ordered a few days ago. Anyways, the camera kit is finally available in the Apple Store, its $29 and ships in late April.
 
It's a week to launch -- of course Apple isn't going to guarantee April 3 delivery to new orders now. Time to ship out the existing pre-orders + store inventory and start integrating 3G into the production line.

except i think you could order an iphone 3gs up until tuesday and still get it by friday last summer.
 
I survived. I didnt make an impulsive purchase prior to seeing this thing in action. Will probably buy before June, but wasnt sure how necessary the 3G version will be. Or what the memory needs will be. For all I know, Apple may add a camera or something to fend off the HP slate. ANyhow, I am proud of myself yet still anxious.
 
I haven't ordered one yet but was thinking about it. This makes me a little sad since I'll have to wait if I decide to get one. Maybe I'll wait till I hear what 4.0 will offer then decide to make the plunge or not.

(does anyone know if apple will be supporting lilypond or any of the other sheet music formats or will I just have to convert everything to PDF and use the sheet music that way.)
