It would appear that Apple has stumbled upon an untapped market yet again...

I was resolute that I was not going to get an Apple Watch, and ordered a Garmin fenix 3 Sapphire with Metal Band instead. (Because of Ant+ basically)

And when I ordered mine, the ship times were in the 1 to 3 week time frame.

Since then, I have watched the ship times slip to 2 to 4, 3 to 5, and now 5 to 8!

It would seem that there is pent up demand for such a device, a 'smart watch', and perhaps Garmin is having spillover from people either not needing the Apple Watch, or not wanting the Apple Watch, but wanting a smart watch just the same.

I'm now 15 days into my order, and apparently won't see the fenix I ordered until possibly mid-June.

Somebody on another thread was ranting about technology sucking because they were having to wait so long for their Apple Watch. It's not the technology, it's the manufacturers not ramping up production enough before release, and the herd mentality that makes people flock to certain devices...

*sigh*

The reason there is a delay is because this is a brand new product, AND there are 38 different order combinations... They're not going to make a million of each watch combo and have them sitting around. They're going to manufacture a few hundred thousand and then release for pre-order and ramp up production based on orders. THAT is the smart logistical thing to do.

Also, no one here cares about your Garmin pre-order. I didn't even know they made a watch.

What a weird post to put on Macrumors.

I suppose it is, but after reading so many posts from people whining about their Apple Watch shipments, I was bummed to find out that I'm in a different boat, heading from the same place, so to speak... DELAY... Anticipation...

Whatever...

It's not just Apple Watch purchasers running around wondering if they will get their watches this month.

Garmin does the best Gps Watches, the 920 is even a smartwatch ^^
With 30 days Batterie
I use it for marathons and triathlon
^^ by the way why so unfriendly?
I can understand him.
Ps i prordered an apple watch too ;-)

Garmin watches are plagued with connectivity issue. I sold my Garmin for a Suunto and never looked back.

But it IS an Apple forum...

So please everyone, PLEASE be sure to log right in and slag people that write about products from Bose, Ford, BMW, GoPro, Griffin, and all of the other mac and iDevice related companies.

I'm sure they would LOVE to hear from everybody... Yepers.

I assume that this site is about, basically, 'all things Apple', and hearing about people complaining about their delays in getting their latest Apple product is, sadly, a rather large part of the experience.

I had the idea that after slagging the Apple Watch, and now seeing that apparently there is a large pent up demand for the 'smart watch' genre, that I would post about my 'spillover' experience with ordering a different brand of 'smart watch'. It's not just Apple Watch purchasers that will be waiting by the computer for shipping information.

BTW, I called Garmin, and they are tentatively saying a ship date of April 30th. 4 weeks after I ordered it with a quote of 2 to 4 weeks. But that's the way it goes...

I've got an Edge 510 and haven't had that many problems with it, except for a bug in a release of their firmware.

I don't like the UI of the Suunto products. I knew someone that had a Suunto scuba computer that flooded, and Suunto treated him like twice warmed over crap. Support for the products a company sells goes pretty far in my book.

I knew that I didn't want a fitbit, or some of the other 'fitness trackers' on the market, plus I have an investment in Ant+ sensors and the Apple Watch doesn't do Ant.

We all take a risk with any device we purchase, be it from Apple, Garmin, fitbit, or even Suunto. Garmin has supported everything I've ever had from them. Sorry you had a bad experience. I hope to have a better one.

Yeah, I did have one of these, and it was a POS. The UI sucked dino balls, and the 'creative' touch sensitive bezel was a major PITA. I fought with that for long enough that I couldn't return it, and it ended up sitting in a drawer until I sold it on ebay for something more than throwing it out. I'm well aware of their past mistakes. But on an odd note, I was surprised to find that there are a group of people that actually liked the 405CX. There are apparently people that are actually looking for new, or newer condition ones. I had to wonder if they were masochistic, or if it was just that I didn't give it enough time before drawering it... But, like with the fenix 3, lets see how the Apple Watch performs once it's out and undergoing the highest degree of testing: Shipping to real people.

Maybe Garmin watches got better but when I had mine, I couldn't transfer my activities 80% of the time. I had to fight with the watch to get it synchronize. It was a nightmare to deal with. The Garmin backend interface was actually not bad. Another thing I didn't like about my FR910XT was that it took 3 minutes to find satellites. My Suunto take about 2 sec when you enable an activity in the same area.

(In my zombie cult voice)" NOT ONE OF US!" Hahaha JK

And I know people LOVE hearing about my Garmin issues, but I just got an update from them on the fenix 3 sapphire that was supposed to ship yesterday.

It will not be shipping until maybe May 22nd. Maybe...

Rep says 'We didn't anticipate the demand for this item, and apologize for the delay'. Well, that's an understatement, especially considering that the delay was quoted as 2 to 4 weeks at the time I ordered...

So people getting your Apple Watches early? I am envious... *SIGH*
