Arguably the best laptop ever.
Oh, I hope not.

Best so far, maybe.

I ordered yesterday as soon as I could:

Configuration

2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
512GB Flash Storage -- I couldn't see paying $500 extra for the biggest flash storage.
No VGA Adapter
No Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
KYBD/USER'S GUIDE
COUNTRY KIT

Delivers Jun 22 - Jun 26 via Standard Shipping

I ordered one yesterday. My shipping estimate:
Ships: 3 - 5 Weeks :(

I requested the faster processor, 16GB RAM, and largest available HD

I ordered immediately after the store went up. Because I bumped it to the 768G drive the shipping estimate was 3-5 weeks. Strangely, if I spec out the same system today shipping estimates show 2-3 weeks. I wouldn't read too much into their 'estimates'.

I plan to buy the retina MBP. Is it still compatible with the 27" Thunderbolt displays?

I'm sure it is. Wouldn't be surprised if we see an updated TBD in the coming months with USB3, however.

Out of stock??

Hi guys,

Do You think they might run out of stocks until beginning of July?

I don't live in US, but I'll be on a Trip around US in the beginning of July and I am planning to buy one directly at the retail stores. Now I am afraid they might be sold out.

What do You think? Any chances of this happening?

Thanks for the help,

Well, aside from the fact that it's the best laptop they've ever made.

But hey, you're right. It's the Apple logo that does it for people.

It actually does it for many people, didn't say it did it for you, but usually the ones that feel attacked have a reason to feel that way.

I'm thinking on buying one by the way but may wait until Rev. B.

Did you actually read the posts yesterday? the tag line is one thing, the reality for many people is that is not.

Did everyone needed to buy one on the first day or they just wanted to buy one. Independent buyers may go either way, but I think is more of the latter. Companies and the like plan for purchases ahead and not based on rumors of an inminent release.

Has anyone seen Retine MBP "IN STOCK" ?

I was able to log into the apple store website as soon as it was back online, and it was "5-7 days" already!

Rosetta, ExpressCard, FireWire, Ethernet, DVD.

I ordered a Snow Leopard 17".

ATV1, MBP 15" ExpressCard+battery, I always have to buy the discontinued stuff from Apple now.

Until now, only the Mac Mini had HDMI (aside AppleTV for obvious reasons). The new retina MacBook Pro has HDMI also. I wonder if this is part of the post-Jobs strategy.

Hogwash!

The powerbook 12" rocked!

Loved that machine! That is how you build a pro machine.

The new MBP, more MBA then MBP, buy hey some people believe in the hype that is the best pro ever!

Logo is one thing, falling for Marketing crap.... geez!

"The waiting is the hardest part"

But....when you are upgrading from a 2006 Macbook what's a couple more weeks? I ordered the 2.3 GHz with 16 G Ram, it will seem like magic!

iphone owner since the original born on date of 6-29-07! iPhone 3, 3GS, 4, 4S iPad 3

No anti-glare option for Retina MacBook Pro????

No. There's no layer of glass over it like there is with the traditional Apple glossy displays.
From Apple's website:
More color and contrast. Less glare.

The new Retina display reduces glare while maintaining incredible color and quality. In fact, it has a 29 percent higher contrast ratio than a standard MacBook Pro display. Blacks are blacker. Whites are whiter. And everything in between is rich and vibrant. IPS technology gives you a wide, 178-degree view of everything on the screen, so you’ll see the difference at practically any angle. And you’re going to love what you see.

And no stock in stores :(

Yet. It just started shipping yesterday. Apple products might be "magical" but I don't think they have a Star Trek transporter just yet. They still require delivery services to get stock to stores.

They probably had about 10 built to begin with.

Sure, because Tim Cook is that stupid.

If you guys think the laptops are going to fly off the "shelves" like iPhones/iPads, you're crazy.

Wait a few weeks, the supply chain will be established and laptop buying habits will be same as its ever been.

The metric isn't iPhones or iPads. That would be stilly. The metric is MBPs, and for MBPs, it certainly looks like they are flying off the shelves. However, I have a theory that one of the reasons Apple left the "old" MBP on the stock sheet b/c the 15" Retina screens are going to be slow off the production line. So the drop back in ship dates is probably a combination of demand + availability. However, Apple doesn't need to "hold back" product to gin up demand. MBP sales have been growing even while PC laptops have been decreasing.

Think the MBPR looks great, but feels like an interim/developmental device . . . similar to how the iPad 1 looked lovely at first, but soon got a lot of very necessary updates with iPad 2 and 3. (The iPad 3 was described to me by an Apple store in the UK as being complaint with 4G in the UK . . . utterly wrong. The iPad is the most disappointing Apple device I have owned.)

The t-shaped (old-fashioned looking) MagSafe2 and its incompatibility with the power on the Thunderbolt Display suggest that the MBPR is rushed and out of sync with the rest of the Apple ecosystem.

I'm perplexed by this:

"This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery."

http://store.apple.com/hk/product/MD506

You can "operate without a battery"? The battery is removable/can be isolated?

I still hate the fact that their's no 17" version anymore...
a 17" retina would been very nice..

a 60" retina TV would be nice too, but like all things, we have to wait on the technology to get there. It was only a couple years ago that it was groundbreaking to have one on a 3.5" screen. Then a 10" screen, and now 15." Relax, it'll come. ;)

is it just me, or does anyone else find it odd that the non retina MBPs can only go to 8GB of RAM? So if you want/need lots of RAM, you must pay a penalty of getting multiple adapters (firewire, ethernet, ect)

People have been putting 16GB into their 2011 MBPs, so the new one should be no different. Apple always sets a top amount of RAM that they sell with the computer and that they say it can take, but it can pretty much always take more than that. Besides, if you're buying one where RAM is user upgradable, it's generally much cheaper to do it on your own instead of through Apple.

Think the MBPR looks great, but feels like an interim/developmental device . . .

So the reduction in thickness, removal of optical drive, addition of USB3, flash storage, and retina screen all aren't natural developments for the previous generation MBPs?

What would make this a non-interim/developmental device?

Hm, was going to order...but if the wait is 2-3 weeks anyway I'll probably wait a little longer to see how hot this sucker runs... (my current 15" mbp gets uncomfortably warm when used longer then a few minutes...):D
