I'm shipping my new iMac back to Apple as DOA. I no longer have the original box, so they gave me a $25 credit to use toward packing materials. I've searched all over town for leftover iMac boxes to use, but have not found any -- so I suppose my next option is to have it professionally packed.

Will Apple still accept the shipment if it arrives damaged? It was their choice to have me ship it w/o the original packaging (instead of sending me a box), but I am understandably anxious about what the consequences of it being damaged in shipment may be.

if it is covered under AppleCare call them, they should ship you [overnight] a prepaid box for you to ship it to them.

Just called Apple again to request a box... they only send one out if you call a certain number (can't remember if you have to go through AppleCare or not through AppleCare). Anyway, I apparently did not go through the correct folks so I get paid shipping, but no new box.

They did say that I am not responsible if it arrives damaged, so I am less worried now. I'll just have someone pack it.

When I sold my G4 iMac on eBay I took it to the UPS store and had them pack it. I simply took the entire computer in, sat it on their counter and they did the rest. the 1st girl behind the counter fell in love with it. She said she had no idea what it was but it was the coolest looking thing she ever seen. The 2nd gal said "thats a iMac, I just ordered one two days ago." Thought that was pretty cool.

Anyway, it cost me $20 to have them pack it up and they are 100% liable if its damaged.
