Now that they've ported Weather and Clock apps from iOS to macOS Ventura, I'm shocked Apple isn't adding these apps to tvOS 16.

If you look at the Weather and Clock app on macOS Ventura, their layout is practically perfect for tvOS.

And yes, I would use a world clock/timer app on my Apple TV.

Is one needed?
Just use the remote and ask for the time or say Weather or you can even specify a particular place.

You can also ask for specific days too

Yeah, I would argue a dedicated Weather app is needed because many people don't know about all the non-visible (Siri) capabilities of Apple TV.

Also, those graphics are static and the new Weather app is fully interactive and offers much deeper weather data.

So I still think a dedicated Weather app is the way to go.

And since tvOS 16 has essentially no new headline features, just surprised they didn't add Clock and Weather to make it look like a more significant upgrade.

I would argue that a weather app is really not needed, especially since they tend to display very little current information. If you want to see the weather on an ATV then turn on a weather TV channel and get up to date, live information. Besides, would you really want to have to back out of a streaming app just to see outdated weather stats? If the ATV could toggle a weather screen temporarily in front of the currently running app, then that wouldn't be so bad. But having to close one app, open the weather app, close the weather app, then reopen the original app you were watching would be a royal PITA, not to mention time consuming. Personally I would just pick up my iPhone or iPad and look up the weather on them rather than using a clunky interface like tvOS. And since darn near every device has a clock displayed these days, I really don't see the need for a clock app either, unless it could be momentarily toggled on top of the currently running app. I can already see three clock displays on various devices within the same room as my TV.

it never crossed my mind that I would want a weather app on my tv, but ... is there a weather channel app? if no it seems 3rd party provider s have no interest or don't see the use case

Maybe I'm just old, but I remember growing up always getting my weather forecasts from the TV. The five-day weather outlook graphics were the highlight of the boring evening news when I was a child. Getting your weather forecast from the TV just feels natural for my generation.

Weather Channel has an app as does Weather Live. Or at least both used to.

No need to close the app you are using. If the weather app is already open just hit the TV button twice to go to fast app switching.

I'm retired from the software industry, although I never worked for Apple. Whenever our teams were developing plans for an update to existing software or a new software app, we conducted research with customers to see what features and/or updates they wanted. Typically, the features that got the most requests got added. If Apple does conduct that kind of research, it is possible that little customer interest was shown in a weather app. As someone else already mentioned, there are some 3rd party apps available. But as I mentioned earlier, those kind of apps are rarely updated that frequently and the information can be many hours old. I know the apps on the iPhone and iPad are basically giving old information, even the local TV stations which have their own weather apps cannot be relied on to be up to date. One particularly bad app is Weatherbug as it uses WX stations installed in schools and they rarely have them working correctly.

I have been using this as my weather app since 2016 with great success, found out about it on this forum...
