Remember, the Apple stores will stock the base and mid tier models but not the CTO/BTO high end storage/UM models.

And they won't have a customized keyboard, matching color trackpad, etc...

This is where the Apple stores makes more money - if you want the full-sized keyboard or matching color trackpad, they will make you buy them separately!

9to5Mac says:

"According to multiple sources, including Jon Prosser who has a good track record of nailing these release dates, Apple will release the new iMac, iPad Pro with M1 and the upgraded Apple TV 4K with revamped Siri Remote on May 21.

The May 21st date was first reported by Prosser a few days ago, with an implication that the 11-inch would launch one day later on May 22nd. Prosser has updated his original comment to say that the 22nd date was inaccurate.

Since then, other retailers have also started reporting a May 21 release date. For instance, the product pages for the 24-inch iMac on the website of UK retailer (and Apple authorized reseller) John Lewis informs customers that the new iMac models will be available then."

Will be interesting to see which 16GB option the stores stock and in which colour. I wonder if they'll just go for the "safe" grey/silver option.

8 core Silver 16/512 would be perfect for me

Can’t you place the order online via the education store for store collection?
No, I don't think these BTO models show up on the online inventory - they're only available if you phone the store or go in.

I managed to make an order through UNiDAYS (UK resident here) and their educational site allows you to customise it to a 16gb version.

Interesting, will see what happens tomorrow once they're officially launched/available.

Will colored trackpads be sold separately? I didn’t preorder one, now I regret it but I don’t wanna cancel my preorder, as it’s about to ship. Thanks.

They won't be soon, but eventually yes

EDU pricing differs between different countries ?

I never knew - I thought they honor EDU discounts no matter where you are....

In the US, one can customize any Mac and get the EDU pricing along with any accessories.

Unfortunately, the Pro Apps Bundle for EDU can't get a discount because it's already heavily discounted. 😟

This will be the first time I have tried to get a mac at launch in store. In previous experience do the shops take stock of both 8 and 16GB options albeit in low numbers. I had just presumed they would get base stock 8GB and any configs would have to be bought online (with horrendous lead times). I'm in the UK by the way but I imagine the issue will be the same globally.

I was thinking the issue is whether or not a Store's BTO option they stock will appear in the Apple online store for payment and pickup or if you have to call them in order to reserve it?

I forgot to ask, when does store stock normally get updated for a new launch like this, is it tonight or on the morning of launch?

Apple Store stock gets updated starting in the morning after they receive their stock.

When I had to pick up my iPhone 12 at the Apple Store on launch weekend, I had to check 6 different stores to find the model, color and capacity I wanted.

When I found it, I immediately paid for it in full and it was waiting for me later that day.

Remember, the Apple Stores may not have the high end model or 2TB or 16GB or some other BTO/CTO model....
If you are willing to take a mid or base model, and you have more than one color choice, then it might be worthwhile.

So if you find it at your Apple store, pay for it immediately otherwise it will get sold to someone else!

iMacs are "up" on the Apple Store for store pickup.

I don't know if I am late to the party and they are sold out, or they have not made stock available yet.
Each of the three basic builds are set up for in store pickup.

Everything says "not available" in SoCal

They have been like that since earlier in the day. Just setting up for tomorrow’s in store pick up stock. They will become available in the morning.
