Short name

Hello all!
I have made a wonderful blunder .. as per my name this is understandable.
I changed my short name as I thought it would conflict in a network I am trying to set up. I re started and then POOF! My desktop, all my folders, bookmarks in firefox.... all gone... as if it was never there. In addition, the short name remained unchanged. I suspect it has something to do with root user.... things I know nothing about in MAC... all I did was simply change the name as it totally let me take it out and type something new...I look in users now and see my new user... but I would like to log in with those settings .. or just put it back as it was.. anyone help me on this? I don't imagine it is too difficult .. only for me perhaps lol

I can not believe how fast you replied ! You are just sweety !
It worked! I have sent you a virtual bottle of the finest port and some Swiss chocolate to go with it !
I do agree as well with one post that suggests a warning before someone like myself changes the short name.
