I'm a little too lazy to go look it up but has Apple ever updated any model laptop in less than a year?

Yep, quite a bit. Apple released the MBA Nvidia in Oct 2008 but updated it in June 2009 with the Intel Core 2 duo when it came out. Then the Oct 2010 Core 2 duo was replaced in July 2011 when the Sandy Bridge chips came out. The MBP was even worse. One was released Feb 2011 with an update to Sandy Bridge Oct 2011 then another with Ivy Bridge June 2012 as well as Retina in June 2012. Oct 2013 then July 2014, then March 2015. Most updates are 7-9 months. So Im betting we will indeed see a Skylake MacBook the end of this year right in time for the holidays.

I agree, I'd be really surprised if Apple do not update the Macbook as soon as skylake components become available.

Now that they have the industrial design and the production line up and running, it could essentially be just a CPU package swap with improved graphics. Maybe they will update the custom SSD at the same time. They have a superb unit to drop in improved silicon.

It would be awesome if, with better efficiency of skylake, they can make a unit with 12 hour battery runtime. End up replacing both airs.

I think Intel is launching Skylake around July (at least a paper launch). It's probably smart to wait until then and see what numbers they report. Maybe the hype is bigger than the actual gains or maybe not. It will be easier to decide... for those who can wait until then at least.

Is more complex, Apple will need to redesign the Logic Board for Skylake CPU`s, equally Apple like all majors will have access to preproduction components, specifications etc.

Personally I believe Apple will move the MacBook to Skylake ASAP, as is will benefit the most from the new architecture.

Personally I would be amazed if they don't, given the premium nature of the MacBook.
They could have added it to the MB now, they opted not too. I don't see them adding it in later down the road, especially when the rMB could definitely use a second USB port.

Their stated when they unveiled it, that no more wires was their goal. Adding a TB goes against that ideal.

Nope, connector is physically too big, nor do they have space for the current larger Thunderbolt controller, hence the omission. We will both find on the next revision :)
