Its just extra money now... It's already available on the iTunes Store in full,

Besides, that's what previews are for aren't they ? Turing shows into shortens versions makes little sense when that's not how they were bought out..

e.g. Loony Tunes makes sense.. but not a 22min TV show like Fraggle rock

I think there might have been a misunderstanding: This isn’t re-purposed old material. It’s a new show featuring the same characters that already were in the old one.

It was pretty disappointing. Nothing like the depth of original Fraggle Rock. The backgrounds were flat static images with the puppet in front: nothing like the live 3D backgrounds full of life and interest of the originals. Looked like a cheap rush job

I was also a little disappointed. Looks cheap. Then I realized why. This show was put together last minute to be able to be filmed from the puppeteers‘ homes. Notice the theme of this first episode is staying in touch with friends with technology in this time of social distancing. This wasn’t filmed months ago. It’s made the week that it goes live. Hopefully it’s still successful and after this pandemic is done, they have a bigger budget so that future episodes are more dynamic, with a full set.

I don't think it's widely realised that for the original series there were several different international versions. Although the same material was used in each version, it was intercut with country-specific content so what we saw when we watched Fraggle Rock in the UK was different from what the US saw, even though most of it was the same content. For example, in the UK Fraggle Rock is a small sea island with a lighthouse, with the lighthouse keeper being the Fraggle's human friend, and in the US the human character was an inventor with a pet dog, but the scenes without these characters would be the same in both the UK and the US versions of each episode. I think there was also different contexts in other countries too.

The UK version with Fulton MacKay as a lighthouse keeper was great. It was both clever and insane that they did some many wrapped versions...I like the fact the German one was called Die Fraggles :) and the french One was set in a bakery and the guy was a chef.. of course.

I just watched this and it looks good, but Gobo sounds like a different actor from the original. The other Fraggles sound just like they did in the 80’s.

Yes, this is because Jerry Nelson who voiced Gobo has sadly passed away. The original show was shot in Toronto, Canada, and Gobo has appeared to pick up a much, much stronger Canadian accent than before (at least to my ear) ;)

But I loved Fraggle Rock. It was by far one of the most technically advanced puppet shows produced by Jim Henson. What Faz Fazakas did with radio-controlled puppets was extraordinary. This show pretty much used every trick in the book - special and visual effects. Glad to see some of that pioneering spirit even with these restrictions, and once everything opens up again, let's hope they too pull every trick in the book.

(As a side note, Karen Prell who plays Red has been an animator at Pixar and also worked/supervised the animation of Wheatley in Portal 2).

First Amazing Stories, now Fraggle Rock? Apple is totally going after 80s kids! What’s next? He-Man and Who’s The Boss?

He-Man is indeed making a comeback, courtesy of Kevin Smith and chums (https://cosmicbook.news/kevin-smith-he-man-mark-hamill-kevin-conroy). Like She-Ra's reboot, it'll be on Netflix.
