Okay guys, the only way I'd be able to get an external monitor would be if I got the baseline 15'' MBP, in which case I could get a 23'' Cinema Display (I have NO idea how I'd go about getting another type monitor here in Mexico...). QUOTE]

seriously?

you can buy monitors at any store that sells computers

i live in mexico and i see monitors for sale in all the usual places. from low end to high end, its all here.

or maybe you live in some isolated rural area?

so order one from the mexico apple store. store.apple.com/mx

i live in mexico, and i know no retailer charges 40% interest for anything

there are no official apple stores in mexico, but there are plenty of stores that carry macs. ive never seen a hd17" in store before but you can see the standard ones. macs are sold in many many places but seriously, just order it from the macstore.

i dont know what the problem is....

The problem is the person who's credit card I'm using to buy it is unbelieveably stubborn and refuses tobuy ANYTHING online. Whereas, he has no problem spending the sam amount or more from a retailer.... Actually, he probably just made the 40% thing up to get around buying online. <_<

Believe me, the online store was the first thing I suggested when I heard he couldn't find it...

this is just silly..........

it even made me post here after such a long time

apple store mexico does not charge any interest, especially not 40%. nobody does.

just ask this person for the cash and purchase online but deposit at the bank or go to a brick and mortar apple reseller, and there are many of them all over mexico, and have them order you one.

I live in Pto. Vallarta. =/
The problem, you see, is I'm not buying everything personally. The person who's getting it for me is in Mexico city, and I have to relay purchase instructions to him via phone, since all I have for a computer at the moment is my PS3. Unfortunately stores that this person would know (such as Office Max & Depo, Liverpool and Palacio de Hierro) don't have them listed ontheir online stores so that I can tell him what to buy. =/
Could you maybe give me a monitor suggestion

He did, and they told him that the 17'' widescreen model was U.S. only and had to be imported and it would take them a very long time to get one , but apparently, some MAY be coming at the end of this month. <_<

Got me there.

Go hi-def. You can always drop the resolution if you don't like it.

You can't drop the resolution of LCD screen without everything becoming blurry. And I though people would know about it by now...

Alright, I give up. I went looking EVERYWHERE for external monitors and couldn't find any. Would you care to recommend a store or something? :(

ok, you do live in a small fishing village........ ;-)

compudabo in mexico city (where the person with the credit card and sketchy excuses lives) has an apple showroom in polanco. call and ask if they can order you a 17" wuxga. www.compudabo.com.mx

msm in guadalajara carries viewsonic monitors. the high end stuff is good.
www.msm.com.mx. the website is lame and doesnt have anything but they can order you anything they represent. they have several brick and mortar shops in gdl.

the higher end dell monitors are good and you can order those from the website. www.dell.com.mx - but i guess thats not an option for you

good luck
