I’m sure there are people who want the larger Max screen size, but cannot justify the Pro pricing or need the Pro features. Seems like a missed opportunity, although I’m sure if Apple did it, it will highly cannibalize their Pro Max model. It will be like the days before the iPhone X, where there’s always the Plus version on the lower end.

Apple now has an iPhone mini, so why not an iPhone Max?

To many choices makes it hard to choose. I am already torn between the 12 pro I bought and 12 mini.

Nope. They shouldn’t. In fact they only need to keep the 11 or XR, one of the two.

Less choices = Better marketing.
I agree that in certain segments, less choice is better and less confusing for consumers. However, Apple is set on making two tiers for the non Pro, and two tiers for the Pro. And if Apple decided that it's worth it to make a mini iPhone, why not fill the segment of people who prefer larger screen phones but don't need the extra bells and whistles? :)

Hopefully for 2021, Apple can keep the mini at reduced price, and replace the 12 with iPhone 13 and 13 max. :D Remember the rumor for the SE Plus? That might mean that Apple was thinking about it, a lower cost max iPhone.

I remember the days of just 1 iPhone and everyone was happy, then they went to just 2 iPhones (regular size, and Plus size). The choices were easier back then. I personally have gone with their plus/Max size phones since they started making them. I wonder if there will be too many options at some point?

Apple don’t make a Pro mini or a standard Max at present but undoubtedly there would be a market for both. Whether those markets are big enough to justify either device is a question we can’t really answer.

Apple tend to take a few years to react to market demand though unlike their competitors so I wouldn’t expect a device like these anytime soon.

I don’t mind the plus and Max phones, but I hate this idea that they get better specs. Absolutely ridiculous on Apple’s part. The consumer should not have to choose the large phone to get all the features when the prices from last year stayed the same in the pro models with the regular pro getting all the same hardware as the max. I won’t ever choose the max, but it’s so frustrating not to get the same camera.

I’m with you on this. I purchased the Max myself so have no reason to grumble personally. But if the phones share the “Pro” naming they should be identical apart from the size of the device. Max being the only differentiator implies the phones are identical otherwise right!

Exactly! If they had made the regular 12 pro cheaper, I could handle them being different, but the 11 pro and 11 pro max were different in size. Nothing at all else. Either you lose the pro name and only give the max all the pro features, or you make the smaller pro full featured and keep the pro name. They did this with the 6 plus and regular 6 and then the 7 plus. Them some how the X became their best phone. From then on the max got the same features. I don’t know what the reason is behind this, but I think it very poor on Apples part.

More options is better. Not everyone wants max size phones. But there’s people who love it. Same with middle range phone like the 12. To me it’s too small but for some it’s too big. And there’s also people on a budget where spending $699 or $599 on a phone is preposterous.

For regular users like my mom who had a 5s, se, and now eyeing the mini next year when the price drops. Or the secretary at our office who had a 6 for close to 6 yrs who just got the 2020 se and loves it. Those are why Apple keeps multiple models because they’ll never buy the current iPhones.

if you want to blame someone it’s really manufacturers who raised the price $100 per year ever so slowly each. But then again they push technology from less than hd displays to hi-res oled panels.
