    Hi

I have an older MBP... bought in mid-2009 and I've never had a real problem ::knock wood:: However recently it has been a little wonky. Not waking up from sleep, so I have to turn it off and restart it sometimes. Yesterday, I noticed when it would not wake up, it was running very hot! I turned it off and let it rest for a few hours before restarting... it's been ok, but again this morning I had to restart it to turn it on...

I really can't afford to replace it right now, nor do I want to. It has a matt screen and as a pro photographer I find this essential for editing...!

I'd like to know if there are any good Mac repair places in the L.A. (Pasadena if possible) area that I could have it checked out. I really want to try and save it... rather than give up on it. 5 years might be the longest I've had one of these but I know people buy older ones and refurbish them all the time...this trend to just dump them when they have problems is kind of crazy. For the screen alone, which you can no longer get (I had to special order this one even!) is worth it!

    Thanks!

Go here, select Service and enter your location and other information. It should give you a list of Apple authorized service providers.

Just thought I'd update with the rest of the story... ;)

Well, last week my hard drive finally bit the dust. Luckily, after getting no real recommendations here, I did my own research and found a highly recommended Mac specialist in my area, called La Canada Mac. I read a ton of good yelp reviews, though that almost made me more wary... but I called them any way and arranged to bring it in the next morning.

"Them" is actually a he, Jack a true "Mac Genuis" who runs his one man show with great efficiency and pride in his work! He had it back to me later that same day, with a brand new drive and completely cleaned and running like new! He was unable to recover most of my old hard drive, but was able to get it to mount long enough for me (!) to pull off a bunch of important files (applications would not open at all) can't imagine many tech places letting you do that... and it was all very reasonable.

I just feel very relieved... Not only can I not afford a new MBP right now, I don't want one! I can not edit my work with a glossy screen and hate that they no longer offer a matt screen option... Anyway, for others in the So Cal area who may be having problems, I just wanted to share my experience and recommend this resource... I have no affiliation with him, just a happy customer!

    ----------

P.S. I wanted to also add, I did have a back up of most of my software on a Mac Mini and had backed up 99% of my files on hard drives. Since I moved from film to digital I have always maintained two computers, a laptop and a desktop and this has saved me more than once when one failed... !

So the moral of story is back it up!
