Dunno about the keyboard, as the current version of the keyboard is new to the MacBook this year, but you might want to consider 16 GB RAM if you want to keep the machine 5 years or longer.

How would the 16 ram prolong the life span?

For Word and Netflix 8GB should be fine even in five years...

If u r really so short in money have u tried to find a used 2016 model? They should be 50%.

BTW is the longest thread ever for a single MB recommendation?

Thanks. Any idea what gb ram my old MBP 2011 had? I know I didnt upgrade from base model back then.
I thought about older models, but I sort of wanted the newest when getting one. Not that it matters for my use really.

Yes, sorry. Way too long. I also have two(!) reddit threads going with the same discussion. :p Like I've said, the size really had me stumped for so long, but my mind's made up now. Thanks guys!

Probably 4GB. U can find this in the upper left under "about this mac" or start the activity monitor for more RAM info.

Ok. Don't tell me how long u need when buying a car or house ;)

I took me three years to buy an electric guitar ;)

The 12 inch Macbook is probably my favorite laptop I've ever owned. Sadly it was stolen this spring so I ended up getting a 13 inch rMBP thinking I'd like some more screen estate. A couple of months in and I really wish I had gotten the 12 inch instead, the added screen space doesn't do much in terms of productivity anyway. At home I have an external 27 inch 1440p monitor for my photo editing.
It was such a light machine, perfect when commuting a lot and spending the weekends at e.g my parents or grandparents. I borrowed an Air briefly this summer and I couldn't stand the display.
I'd also argue that 8gb is sufficient, but if you can afford it 16 wouldn't hurt.

So I got my space grey MB 12-inch today. Sort of dreaded opening it, but now that I have I love it. The size will absolutely positively take some getting used to, as will the keyboard, but I'm glad. The size is practical.

One issue I've had is that I cannot connect to my usb-c adapter... That is to say that the usb-end will not fit. Are there more than one type of usb or is it faulty? It's made by Apple...

Respect

There is just one USB C. If ur adapter looks different than the charging cable than it's not the right one

It's likely a defective adapter (if not, the wrong one...or, if you got it from Amazon, possibly a fake!) The first USB-C to USB-A adapter I got from Apple was defective on the USB-A side (the physical dimensions of the A female port was too small) - I would call them up and request a replacement/exchange.

You'll need dongles. Re the many previous comments. Can you get a refund? Sure Apple should fix it if you get on to them quick enough.

I'm really stumped. The Air looks awful and a lot of people are saying it's a bad choice, but others say it's a good buy. I'm used to a MacBook Pro from 2011 so any of these feels like a step down, but is it?

In my country a MacBook is $250 more than the MacBook Air, but is it better?

Go into a store and find out for yourself. Laptops are very subjective and a lot comes down to personal taste. Specifications are one thing, but there's no substitute for actually using one.

Return it or get a Nonda usb-c to USB adaptor (plug-in the size of a nickel at 1/2 the price at Amazon)

Aaaaargh! It's not a fake, I know that. But how can it not fit? It only says USB-C to USB, not USB-A, but I've seen usb ports before and it looks like one. It just wont go in.
