I have a related question and thought I would post it here rather than start a new thread. I currently have a Series 6 and was debating whether to get a Series 8 or wait for the 9. I had decided to get an 8. I checked the Apple site and would get a $115 credit for trading in my Series 6.

With that as the preface, my question is: Will my trade-in value drop once the Series 9 is released? I'm figuring the answer would be "Yes", but thought I would see what folks here think.

Thanks in advance for your input.

It's a possibility that the trade value will drop. I think it comes down to if you need the Series 8 now or if you can wait for the latest release.

I was in the same position as you back in May, but ended up getting the S8. Very happy with it.

It may stay same or may go up. It depends on how much Apple wants you to get a AW series 9. Last year was bad year for trading Apple devices, 2021 was one the best years for trading older devices. Series 8 May see a bigger drop in price relative to trading price drop. I personally would wait for s9.

If the rumors are correct about the AW9…and who knows…..it’s looking like a very minimal upgrade over the AW8 (spec Bump on the chip and maybe a new Barbie pink color😊)….and the AW8 was a very minimal upgrade over the AW7 (Crash detection and ovulation sensor😂). I’d say hold out until you can get a fantastic deal on either an AW7 or AW8….and forget the AW9.

I picked up a new AW7 Stainless Steel Graphite with sport band (41mm) for my GF….from Walmart for $299 when they were on deep discount a few weeks ago. The last day to return it is Sept 12 and the Apple event is Sept 12😊. So, I’m keeping the AW7 unopened and am going to see what they announce on Sept 12. If the AW9 update is lackluster….I’ll keep the AW7.

My S4 is starting to act wonky. Not only am I waiting for the S9, but unless I lose my willpower, I may wait until they go on sale.

Hi All.

I am new to the AW market but recently I have been really interested in getting one as I am in the eco system.

I just need help or that final push to either buy a 8 or wait for the 9, rumours online suggest there will not be a design change but wanted someone else's thoughts on this?

i was originally going to pick up a 7 but looking at prices when its nearly two years old isn't worth it in opinion.

Any help would be appreciated.
Here's one approach: I bought an Apple Watch 8 (16% off) from Amazon. I can still return the AW8 if the AW9 turns out to be more impressive than expected.

I took the same approach. I bought a new S7 41mm Graphite SS for 57% off (57% off the current $699 list price of the S8 Graphite). I can still return too if the S9 turns out to be something other than currently expected.

Bought a Series 8 SS on Swappa because the price was a screaming deal, just arrived yesterday. I’m perfectly content with my Series 5 SS, this was more deal shopping and the curiosity of what the newer watch offers.

24 hours in, my answer is: A very similar experience. The larger screen is a mild improvement but doesn’t change how I use it. New sensors are fine and will likely be forgotten about in a couple days. Everything else feels exactly the same.

Will be curious to see if battery life is improved. Beyond that, the gap between these two watches is imperceptibly small, in my opinion. It’s a mostly stagnant product. What makes me sad about that is, having owned Pebble watches in the past, I know that many cool and different ideas are easily possible.

+1. When I went from the S3 SS to the S5 SS that felt like a big leap (bigger face, always on display, snappier processor). Unfortunately, I broke my S5 SS (dropped on a hardwood floor and face shattered). I went from the S5 to the S7 SS…which I have now. Other than the fast charging feature of the S7….which I really love… it felt like a pretty minor upgrade. It felt more or less the same stale design. The S8 and S9 will likely carry on with this same design if rumors are correct.

I can’t imagine the S10 will have this same design. That’s why I say, don’t spend top dollar on the latest AW now (ie soon to be the S9). Instead, find the best deal you can on any recent series (S6, S7, S8). That way, you can sell it, trade it without much of a loss when the fresh new design finally comes (ie I’m betting on the S10 for that).

Update: I have had my AW 45MM GPS Series 9 for 2 weeks now and loving it. Glad I waited for the new model which will last me a few years at least.

Congratulations! I’m glad you’re happy with your decision. I think the 9 offers quite a number of improvements. I finally upgraded my Series 4. I’m continually impressed with the always on display, bright and big screen and overall responsiveness. Siri processing on the Watch directly is noticeably faster.

Congratulations on your purchase. I should have got one years ago I never miss a phone call now when my phone is on silent at work. I got the Silver model which looks really nice I did want the stainless steel but the price jump is higher and I was worried I wouldn’t like the watch at first.
