Since Ipad air 2 is now a year old should we not get the yearly upgrade now? I could use an ipad now but i if next one is in 1-3 months ill wait. Any new on Ipad air 3?

If you need it now, buy it. No one knows when the next version is coming out besides Apple. The Air 2 is still a beast and will have longetivity in the future. I purchased on as soon as the keynote ended. If you wait, you may be waiting a year.

Thanks i think ill just buy it. I dont really see new ipad being a huge upgrade considering ill be using it for Netflix, Reading news, mail and watching movies/tv shows. Touch id i guess would be nice but i have an iphone 6 so having my ipad with it would be kinda weird.

If you're in the states, Target has some sales on iPads this week, some up to $100 off.
Sadly im not. Im somewhere where the Ipad air 2 is 659$ for the 64g model. No good sales here in Canada besides 16g models which are usually only 10-50$ off at best.

You can always try Craigslist (in Canada I think its more people use Kijjimo sp?). You can get some incredible deals if you are careful and do your research. I just scored a NEW iPad air 2 16gb cellular model that was exactly 1 day old (verified at Apple Store and when Seller gave me the receipt) for $325.

There are deals to be had if you are patient and watch the listings.

If you need on now, wait for a holiday season sale or buy refurb. I wouldn't pay top dollar for last years hardware. If you are just wanting an iPad, I would hold off to see where Apple goes with the iPad line next year.

The Air 2 has TouchID, you know. And why is having it on your phone and tablet weird?

Do you want an iPad with 3D Touch, Apple Pencil support, Smart keyboard support, and other cool features that weren't included in the last model?

If so, better wait.

3D Touch and Apple Pencil? So you expect next year's Air to have more than this year's Pro?

I would bet my money on no more New iPad Air .... we will end up with Mini and Pro in the future... just my 2 cents.

How much money? ; )

I don't think they're anywhere close to abandoning the standard size.

Well I am pretty confident, if this is not the last it might be the second last... but the future is in 2 sizes!

No chance of an upgrade this year. Slim chance of it being updated in the spring. I'm hoping for either 3d touch or the Apple pencil on the regular iPads. Both would be pants. 3d touch would have a wider application, and I'd kind of expect that we'll see that before the pencil, which will probably be limited to the Pro for at least a year if not more.

Does not make sense only have two sizes.... Really small ipad mini or too big Ipad pro that costs as much as a apple laptop OVER 1,000$ IN CANADA.

I would wait to see how Ipad pro sales are compared to Ipad air 2 i suspect ipad air 2 sells more due to cheaper price and better size which will eliminate the two size model.

Wait until the Pro, maybe. It's a good bet that Apple will keep stylus support and Smart Keyboard support for the Pro line only.

+1
I'd be looking for a deal over the holidays similar to the $150 off deal at Staples here in the U.S. recently. That way, you wouldn't take as big of a hit if you wanted to sell/upgrade when Apple releases the Air 3. I wouldn't pay top dollar now.

Only Apple knows what they have planned for the Air 3. I can't imagine them dropping it from the lineup. To me the "Air" is the center stone of the iPad line with the Mini and the Pro being more niche products. I wouldn't be surprised if the Air 3 is released in the Spring (along with Apple Watch 2), with the Air 3 packing the A9x, force touch, new design, updated display (4K?), pencil support, etc, etc....with the Mini 4 and Pro getting their updates in the fall (A9 and A10x, respectively...along with other updates).

That seems to be the most likely. If Apple adds only 1, then I'm leaning toward support for the Apple Pencil. They need to get a large quantity of iPad units (pro or non) that support the Pencil out into the market for greater incentive for developers to support it.

It will definitely be interesting to see how Apple approaches product line differentiation. The iPad Pro potentially crosses over both the iPad line and the 11"-12" laptop line. I have guesses, but since we're talking about Apple, who really knows? Apple itself may not have made up its mind yet. :)

Knowing apple they would force us onto the pro or mini only. The still have not even given me a macbook air with retina... I refuse to buy macbook because its one port and macbook pro because its too expensive and large for what i want.

I'm in a similar boat, if you want to call it that. I have the Air 1, but I've noticed it lagging a little bit lately. I wouldn't mind something newer, but don't want the Air 2 if a 3 is on the horizon. I guess I'll wait it out as the Pro might be a little too much iPad for me lol.

The problem is, as we've all agreed a million times, that there's alway something new coming, even if we don't know exactly when. Cheer up, it could be much worse. You could be trying to figure out the timing on a Skylake MBP, which is a much more expensive decision and seems to be much harder to figure out.

Tough desicion

I say buy now , nobody knows when the air 3 comes out
Could be early 2016 or late 2016

Why not save up and get the iPad pro for $300 more ?

I don't know what you're talking about. iPad air 2 is great...but you'll develop buyer's remorse if you wait to buy it. 2gb of ram is great. It's pretty obvious that iPad pro will better specs...but still...air 2 is great for a long time. If you wait later....oh geez...
