I've never owned an iPhone and all other options are too expensive for me. My current phone is a 2010 LG optimus one and I hate it.

I wouldn't personally, but hey, if you're options are limited budget wise then anythings gotta be better than a 5 year old android device right?

No. Don't buy it. Try and get an iphone 5s for that price somehow, someway. Surely you know somebody who wants to upgrade???

I second literally everything that's already been said before me. I'd spend no more than $50 on that phone. I sold my 4s for $200 two years ago.

Buying an iPhone I'd go for nothing less than a 5s. If I couldn't afford that I'd either save longer or just accept I won't be getting an iPhone (on a larger scale we just budgeted a new vehicle and ended up going Toyota rather than Lexus purely from a budgeting standpoint. With $200 you could probably also get a used Moto X gen 1 and get better performance and experience than both the phone yore looking at (4s) and the phone you have (5 year old lg). Cost to performance IMO the Moto X gen 1 is the best value on the market and you'd have next to no learning curve.

First, $200 is too much, and second, it probably won't be much of an upgrade over what you have.

If your budget is $200, then look at the Asus Zenfone 2.

Zenfone is $259 before tax.

The 4s blows the Optimus One out of the water:

180 ppi vs. 330 ppi
3mp vs. 8mp
Single core 600MHz vs. Dual core 1GHz
170 mb storage vs. 16 GB storage
Android Gingerbread vs. iOS 9

And remember guys, I'm talking Canadian currency. The only iPhone you are getting for $50 CDN is a 3G with a cracked screen... that no longer works as a phone... and has a dead battery. That just unrealistic to expect to get a 4s for that price here.

It seems you're already pretty decided. $200 CAD is about $150 USD so we aren't TERRIBLY far off. Around here you can definitely find a 5 for that, and a 5s for another $80 on top of that. And the 5s is going to last you a hell of a lot longer than that 4s.

But only you know what you can afford. People are just saying you can do better for a little extra cash and saying if you can't afford it, just skip the phone all together.

Best of luck either way.

Yeah but on ios9 it is not all that great of an experience I hear. I still use an iPhone 5 and that is not bad at from my personal observations.

The iPhone 4S can be bought off Swappa for not much more than $100--and really it's priced mostly below $100.

So no, I would not spend $200CAD on an iPhone 4S.

I would personally invest a little more for a used 5s in good condition from a trustable source. I understand if your budget doesn't allow this, but I think you can at least find a 5 or 5c for that price? I agree with others here saying it's a little more overpriced than what we'd pay.

But I guess if you're pretty much decided on getting a 4s for $200 CAD it's your choice. And if it's a lot better than your current phone...

Nope...!! Instead, you can go for Samsung Galaxy in that price range. There might be offers going on weekends or festive seasons... if you're investing big money, then invest on something really good :)

A lot of people are recommending the 5s at the minimum threshold to jump in at but honestly, the 5 is still a great phone both build quality wise and performance wise. If you can get that at a good price it's still worth considering.

Yes, but not for that price. I actually plan on purchasing one as a gift, and I'd recommend buying off of a reliable eBay seller (and not Amazon). Here are a couple links:

I've purchased from BastexWireless before and I've had a good experience with them. Good luck with your purchase!

Unless you needed one right away, I wouldn't. I'd shop around, and see if you can pick up a 5 or 5s. One thing you don't mention is how much storage that $200 phone had, or how much you need.

I was flipping back and forth on getting a new phone (6s) or an older phone (5s) when the 6s's became available, and was using Kijiji primarily. Based on that research, you should be able to find a 5s for not much more, depending on how much storage you need.

I wouldn't do it. I bought a 4s about 4 months ago for the gym and it was $60 bucks off Kijiji. I'm here in Toronto, and I get that a good condition 4S goes for around $150 but I would save up $350-400 and get a 5s. Also the 5s is free on contract so it's a good buy.

BTW... There's a 16GB 4s for sale right now in our corporate classifieds section for $65, with a smashed back (a $30 repair at Apple, $5 off of eBay). That seems like a more reasonable price for a phone that old. There's numerous other ones in the local Kijiji market between $100 and $150 as an asking price. $200 is too high, even if the phone is suitable for you.

No don't do it. Get the Moto E/G, OnePlus X, ZenFone, or the other ~$200 new phones.

An iPhone 5 would be sufficient and extremely easy to find on Kijiji and Swappa.ca for that price.

a 4S at 200.00 dollars is way too steep. An iPhone 5 at 200.00 would be servicable though.

But, I also second getting a MOTO E LTE, or possibly a MOTO G. Koodo's prices tend to be good on these handsets. I believe the MOTO E LTE is also available unlocked from Staples.
