No 32GB in November. The only update you will see is 2.---- between now and February. I thought about waiting to get the phone until the Blackberry Storm came out(I was with Verizon as well). I am extremely happy with my purchase. It is the best product I have ever owned. Hands down.

I am sure it will be the best device for me too. So you think that the end of cycle that is expected in about a month will only be a version update? Will previous phones be able to be updated via a download? Why are you sure that there will not be a 32GB? I'm just curious.

When the 3G came out, most people with the original iPhone could, I believe, upgrade for free. Would anyone like to speculate, just for fun, about what will happen next time, given the current phone is subsidised? Upgrade for free, upgrade for a fee or no upgrade? Can't really think there'll be no way to upgrade, not good for business.

Interesting... I looked it up and found this:

Although this was for a brand new model. I wonder if they would have a similar policy for lets say a new 32GB?

Best Buy

I was also on the fence for quite a while, trying to time the 32gb. My t-mobile contract ended in September and was reading every rumor looking for the 32gb. Last weekend (October 11) my girlfriend and I were in Delaware (tax free) at a best buy and decided to get them. (OK, so we had to drive 40 miles out of our way to get to the best buy). It is AMAZING! We both love it, and the 16gb vs 32gb issue evaporated once we started using. So, that being said, I have two suggestions. One is Best Buy. If a new model or upgrade comes out in 30 days, you can pay a 10% restocking fee and get the new one, so that is at least some peace of mind. And second, they have the serial numbers on the box, so make sure it is recent build week. Mine was a week 35, which is the latest they had. (also had some 33 and 34's, might not be an issue, but you never know).

I have the original iPhone and have been waiting for a 32gb version before upgrading. Sometimes I think it won't come out until next June though :(

Thanks for the tip! I work literally across the street from an Apple store, so I'll find out if they would honor the same offer as Best Buy regarding an upgrade. And while a 32 would be nice, I currently have a 8GB Nano, and that's been plenty of room for my music so far. So I think I can be happy with a 16GB.

Ah yes, that was it. You could upgrade for the normal subsidised price with no penalty for changing your contract. I was thinking about when the next generation phone comes out rather than a memory bump.

I was speculating because I don't think the old iPhone was subsidised, so there was nothing to lose by letting people upgrade. The situation will be different next time. I'm in a similar situation to you. I've about a month left on my contract and I'd like an iPhone. What I wouldn't want to happen is some great hardware upgrade and to be locked into an 18-month contract and unable to upgrade. Turn by turn GPS, but only built into the new Phone for example. That's just me being pessimistic, not predicting. I'm not bothered about a memory bump for myself (well, my phone anyway!). 16G is enough for me.

I believe 2.2 will be out on or around the November 17th date. Developers have had the beta for a few weeks now so that should be ample time to work out all the kinks.

I cant be 100% sure there will be no 32GB in November but they haven't announced a 64GB touch yet. Also, the 8GB 3G's are still selling in most stores where I am so why would you update the capacity? I have 2000 songs, many podcasts, videos, and photos and my 16GB is just over half full.

Buy it...you wont be disappointed. Well, unless you do alot of MMS or video recording on your current phone. Then you will be pissed. LOL

I'm curious, why do people want so much space (32gig), is it purely for music/video?

The 3G has been out for 3 months and it's already considered near the end of a cycle? Jeez.

If you want one, buy one.

You'll likely replace it in two years. This replacment model in 2 years will be better that the next model out in 6 months don't forget.

If you're not sure if you want one, buysomethign else like a new Mac-book.

I purchased the 16GB version G3 on the July release date. I traveled to Italy a week later for a six-week stay. It proved invaluable during my trip and I seldom had to use my MacBook Pro. The Bluetooth worked great with the Plantronic’s 925 and the SMS was markedly simple. I hated texting from my Motorola so I wasn’t expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. The emails arrived on my iPhone faster than on my Mac and the GPS was fantastic. I could go on and on but it doesn’t address your question. Bottom line: I have plenty of photos, songs and Apps on the darn thing’ and it hasn’t even come close to filling up with lots of room to spare. If you think you need or want the 32GB version, which may or may not be released in a few weeks, then wait and see. Otherwise, go for it now and begin learning and mastering the features it does have. It’s a great device and it really shines if you already have a Mac.

The SMS on the iphone sucks.... no character countdown, no landscape mode, you cant delete individual messages from same person <-- any cheap phone can do all this.

Was your contract up with verizon? Or were you able to break your contract without paying the early termination fees? I'm with ver. until April 09 unless I can get out of my contract...

My contract is up 2/2010. I justify it with the following. The only reason I had to renew my contract earlier this year was because my phone broke. If I hadn't renewed, I'd still have paid at least $100 for a new Verizon phone at the time anyway.

No way to get out of my contract if I want to keep my number. If you don't care about porting your number, maybe you can find a friend or family member who has Verizon and merge your two accounts together, and have them assume your liability. Then your phone number will just be an extra line to them and the cost will be $9.99 a month. But you can't keep your number this way.

But again, unless you are willing to put in the effort of complaining about "service issues" until they null your contract, no way I can figure out to port a number without paying the ETF.
