So, I can get a Intel Core Duo iMac, the emac replacement one, brand new for 499. should I do it?!!!

depends on what you need it for. Be aware that it has an integrated GPU, a combo drive, (comparatively) small HDD, and no bluetooth.
If you feel you can live without those, sounds like a great buy!
