    Hello all,
Baisically im going to university at the end of this year and am getting a MBP for the course.
My thought are im not going to be able to afford a new computer untill the end of my degree, which it 4 years! So my question is, should i buy now or wait till the next big refresh next year considering this will have to last me 4 years.
I want to buy now but ive read many threads about overheating and, well it sounds silly, but has put a downer on me buying one. I suppose i want people to put my mind at ease before i spend every penny i have. Thanks Will.

MBP (MacBook Pro) has just been revamped and released (sandy bridge)
I'm not sure what the point of your post is though...

We don't answer questions until there are at least three duplicate threads:

Anyway, the current MBP doesn't overheat, it runs hot. Overheating would mean it gets so hot that it flips the safety switch and turns itself off. The current complaint is that Apple did a piss-poor job applying thermal paste to the processor by putting way too much, causing the cpu to run hotter than it should. Apple is not the only manufacturer that does this, my Dad sets up laptops for businesses (usually HP) and has to reapply thermal paste pretty often. Don't let that discourage you from buying the current MBP.

Also it only runs really hot (i.e. the fans kick in full blast) while either gaming or during intense cpu activity such as video processing. For standard college stuff (web surfing, document editing, watching a streaming lecture) it runs quiet.

Ok, I'll be the jerk and point out that the OP posted a question about a Mac Book Pro on the Mac Pro forum.

Not a problem, we're all nice people (mostly) and are happy to help. But you might get more first-hand testimonials if you post in the right forum.

I am paranoid about things overheating. I'd rather have the noise from extra fans than an burned up processor.

I'd probably just get the latest and greatest that I could afford, and then buy the extended apple care. That way you're covered if it does burn up.

Apple is the only company that I would buy an extended warranty from. I don't trust other manufacturers enough to spend enough money to worry about a warranty.
