So I read the Watch 2 got delayed a bit. Should I get a 42mm sport model? I want something I can use for notifications and use in the gym. Could I use the watch with my phone in a bag in a locker or in a backpack lying on the ground? Don't want my iPhone to get stolen either. What's a good price to pay for a refurb Sport or Brand New Sport 42mm?

It depends on the gym's network setup. If they have a WiFi network that does not require user T&C acceptance (which typically has a MAC address-level device authentication) and it does not have WiFi isolation turned on, then it could work.

If you don't want your phone getting stolen, keep it in a backpack that's with you in the gym.

I would buy one, but from somewhere that has a return policy. Go a day or 2 with it. If it feels right, don't return it.

A number of people have had problems getting their watches and phones to work together on public networks that are totally open and un-controlled (like a home network).

It has a guest network and T&C acceptance w/ MAC Address requirements. It's not totally uncontrolled and open for the first network.

Then the watch probably will not be able to do what you want it to. Most likely, it would not connect to their WiFi; so it would be disconnected from the phone and the Internet.

If you are looking for used one keep an eye on Cowboom I picked a used Apple Sport Watch 42MM for 185 after taxes this morning.

I'd just get one used at this point and then if you like it enough, upgrade to the second gen in the fall or whenever it comes out.

i got one last week and i am going to return it next weekend. its just a notification center on my hand.

I got my wife a used 38mm for $150. IMO it's not quite "there" for fitness tracking, but it depends on how picky you are. I wouldn't personally drop money on one just for that, and since thats the only thing I really need it to do really well, I am not currently in the market for me. I'll either inherit the wife's old model when a refresh does come or get one once they have ironed out the kinks.

i rock my phone in my pocket in a case connected to a set of bose earbuds, so my watch has no issue connecting. although cell phone reception sucks at both gyms i go to.

I notice that Cowboom is in the process of shutting down and inventory will now be available through the the Best Buy Outlet but the same deals that were on Cowboom aren't available now. Do you think this is temporary while transitioning inventory or is this the end of those $170 deals?
