Yeap, I believe you are partly right.

With one less firewire port, and more and more costs being cut in the manufacture of these things I can only see the next PBs being closer to Dells.

I say no. This is a really bad time to buy a powerbook.

The 12" is woefully underpowered. It has less on board RAM than the ibook, a weaker (and truly pitiful) video card (though more VRAM), and a sub-par screen.

The 15" has a well known and VERY widespread screen problem.

The 17" has an uneven backlighting problem. And I just hate the 17" but that's just me. :p

Apple needs to update the 12" and get some serious quality control on the 15".

The ibook is a much, much better choice right now. Though I do wish they'd upgrade the screen there, too.

Go for it. I just got a 12" Powerbook (I needed it now, no exceptions), and I love it. If you put it off to MWSF and nothing comes out you'll just be disappointed.

It comes down to this: if you need it now, get it. If you want it now, but are fine without it, wait and see.

Just FYI, the 14" iBook monitor is really not good, I wouldn't suggest it at all. It's dim, rough and prone to white spots, whereas the 12" Powerbook monitor is significantly brighter and sharper. So far I love it.

If you have such a complex with having the fastest computer around, you should build your own computer, not stand on your toes waiting for Apple to release something faster.
