iPad Bro

I sent my Lenovo Yoga 7X back today. I have been checking out the new MacBook Neo, but I don’t know if it’ll work for me. I make graphics, but none of them go more that 5-6 layers usually. My iPad has 8GB but Affinity kept crashing. Got the Lenovo with 16GB and it still crashed. Maybe it was a glitch in the software? At 16GB stuff shouldn’t be crouching. Now I’m wondering if the 8GB of memory will be enough for my graphics. I really want the Citrus, but I could get a MacBook Air. I just don’t know.

Sounds like the app you used may have had problems. The easiest thing to do is buy the Neo and use it as you normally would for 12 days. That is your best deciding factor.

How big were your graphic elements?

Might be an Affinity bug.

During the crashes was memory pressure high? You can monitor this in macOS Activity Monitor.

I did a 21-layer project in Gimp on a Mac m1 with 8GB RAM a few years ago:

My co-worker and I were discussing the Neo vs M5 Air.

I wanted the Neo as a travel laptop while he wanted the Air it as a graphics creation device.

16 GB RAM is perfect for his work as he uses Photoshop & Premiere.

8GB Neo is fine for me as I will run very simple FCP editing 1080 videos.

You have a 14 day return policy. Worst case scenario you simply return it. Best case scenario is you love it and have an awesome new Apple product 👏

The problem imo, is that you're trying to justiy purchasing an entry level laptop for pro tasks. While it may run the apps "ok" today, you're largely painting yourself in a corner when it comes to usage in the future.

I'd also recommend the MBP over the MBA, for one reason, the MBP is actively cooled, not passively, so you can push the laptop harder without it throttling.

If you want a colorful laptop, consider putting a skin on it, like from dbrand.
