If you're planning on getting it anytime soon, go for the PS3 or Wii. To decide between them, pick out the titles/genres that you like best. Look at all the franchises, etc. That should pretty much sum up which system you'll enjoy best.

If you're going to get a 360, I'd wait until the Jasper revision before getting one. That way, hopefully the ill-fated RROD is vanguished forever! :p

You are right... I should have done more research however there was something that you had to get for HDMI on my old 360. The back of mine looked like this:

http://z.about.com/d/xbox/1/5/z/F/360back1copy.jpg

And it is $99.99 for xbl a year where I live, Australia.

Mine is the same since it's a launch day system. However, for the past ~year or so they have had HDMI inputs.

Get a PS3.
I'm a Wii owner and it's not that I don't like it, but most games are childish and will get you bored after 1 or 2 weeks of playtime.
The good X360 games have a great chance of showing up on PC as well (talk about assassin's creed, mass effect and devil may cry4), so the X360 isn't a good option in my opinion. Also, you'll have to spend some extras on accessories for wifi depending on what version you buy and the controller (in my opinion) is a crap.
On the other hand, the PS3 has cool games, some awesome exclusives, the best graphics, won't get you those freaking RRoD, bluray, a great store and good controller.
I'd buy it if I didn't have a Wii already

Build a gaming PC. :D

I like the Xbox 360.

That's more or less what I did - get a powerful enough PC (or a midrange thing 2 years back) so that you get equal 360/PS3 performance and a 360 controller! Just for games that work better with a controller (GTA, platformers etc).
But yea, no Madden

That's the way to go, too many of the great games on consoles are games that belong on the PC anyways and even those that don't get ported and are a breeze to play with the seamless Xbox360 controller implementation (I just wish it had a better d-pad). All I really need to keep me from buying a console is a PC MGS4 port though I don't think that will happen anytime soon. :p

September is riddled with good titles, I'm especially excited about Spore, Pure and Crysis Warhead (probably the only three I'll get in September, Spore looks like a big time hog) but there's also a bunch of other titles like The Witcher remastered, Mercenaries 2, Rise of The Argonauts, the new Brothers in Arms, STALKER Clear Sky and a few others.

2008 has been a pretty great year in terms of gaming :)

MGS4 is supposedly a timeless game so you won't lose anything waiting for the PC port.

Just as MGS1 and 2 didn't come out on the PC?
I'm willing to bet it'll be a long time off. But why not? PC's can have blueray drives. The hardware is more than capable and MGS4 seems to be slipping from the charts already. Don't think there will be a 360 version (although weirder things have happened in the last year of gaming) but a PC version - yup. If Konami likes money they'll get a PC version out.

Tons of console games aren't ported, and Konami said many many times mgs4 is a PS exclusive. Plus I can't imagine playing that game with a keyboard. P

Doesn't matter if you can't imagine playing that game with a keyboard (you can plug controllers into PC's) as it has been done before with the series and other similar games (Splinter Cell). Even the big sellers like GTA IV (and in time Halo 3) are on their way to PC. Giant potential market. MGS4 has fallen off the charts now and it only hit 3million, if that isn't a recipe for a port I don't know what is.

False. 100% Please post where you even got that idea from!

Link or rebute.

Guys just ignore this guy. He obviously doesn't know anything ;). But Nintendo doesn't seem to be making many good hardcore new games. Just some cheap sequels (some good) and a few good ideas.

No flames! There aren't enough firefighters to put them out!

I'm not making it up. I just said what I had previously read - look for yourselves.

Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata, has said in an interview published in the Wall Street Journal that they have exhausted all of their original ideas for the Wi and are unsure of the extent of their ongoing development for the console.

It seems that the plans for the Wii World domination had been drawn up from the very beginning, with Miyamoto originally plotting out the current slew of products. Iwata says "Wii Music completes what Miyamoto wrote in his proposal when he came up with the idea for the Wii. He was saying that he needs to think up more ideas now." In the meantime, it sounds as though everybody at Nintendo has been busy spinning virtual hoola-hoops, "Most of the ideas for accessories that we had initially come up with are out now. We might think up some more, and we might make them if we do, but we don't have any plans to release a whole lot more."

It sounds as though the future of Wii accessories will be left to third party developers if there are to be any. Is this another sign that Nintendo are funnelling their resources into the next iteration of Wii console?

I'm a big nintendo fan, but I'm disappointed in a lot of the wii titles. I play mario kart a lot, big brain academy was great, wii sports and wii play are both fine too. But I've had quite a few letdowns and from what other people have been saying a lot of other titles aren't all that great either. The developers aren't taking advantage of a great platform and its features!

If I were you, I would go with PS3 for three reasons. GTA 3, little big planet, and because I don't like xbox.

Apart from a few very original titles like Wii Sports, Wii Fit, and most of those first-party games, the Wii has little else to offer.

With the PS3 you get more then a console. Your buying a computer that can browse the net, load all your media needs (pictures, music, and videos), Blu-Ray is a plus, built-in Wifi, the list goes on.

I don't have a X360 so I can't say much. There's a new 60gb X360 coming out, and I'm sure the RROD issues are probably fixed.

Xbox 360

I would recommend the XBOX 360. IMO, there are many more games that are worth playing, plus the online gaming network is much larger, and if your into that kind of thing that should sell it right there. I have a 360, and I don't even use it to play games in the normal mode, I just play on XBOX Live with my friends. The earlier 360's had an issue with the motherboard failing (AKA "The Red Ring of Death") but the issue seems to have been solved with last few batches. My 360 which was purchased last July, has not had any issues at all, but all of my friends, who bought them when they first came out (2005) have had failures, but MSFT is really good about fixing/replacing them.

I didn't even consider the PS3, because I'm a huge Halo fan, but one of my friends has a PS3, and they say that it was the worst game system that he has ever bought, because the games for it suck.

I do have a Wii, and honestly, I hate the thing. The graphics suck, the games suck, and the way you interact with the game is just plan dumb IMO. I played my Wii once, and I boxed it back up after that first time.

There are plenty of games for little children to play on the 360, like "Viva Pinata" which I think is a great game.

...all of which the Wii can do as well, minus Blu-ray.

Given the option, the Wii would always be my first choice of the 3 consoles. However, I love my PS3 as well. It's a great game system. Blu-ray is also a powerful incentive to own a PS3. I've spent more money on Blu-ray movies than games, probably...

Though, I've had the most fun with my Wii.

So, did you pick yet? :)

I'll say some quick points anyway.

Wii- Ok, but gets old quick and doesn't have a promising list of upcoming games.
PS3- I love mine, sweet games coming out, a lot of great ones already, Blu-ray, sweet PSN games, built in wifi and free online.

Ah, might as well add
360- it probably won't last as long as the ps3 (look at the ps2!) but is Ok. Some good games, but I'm not a fan of halo, does it have built in wifi yet..., $50 online but I don't like playing online on the 360 I always get stuck with pretty annoying people.

But hey it's your choice.

Actually, I think the 360 version is better, 1080p is not supported on the PS3 and people have claimed it runs a little smoother (not that the PS3 one runs bad).

Uhh what? The PS3 has had 1080p since day one, the 360 has actually had 1080p for less time than the PS3. How can a full blu-ray player not have 1080p

+1. I have had my 360 since December and absolutely love it. However, I must disagree about the Wii. My girlfriend has one and I enjoy it. I am not bothered by the graphics because I am not expecting the same experience as the 360. It is a completely different thing all together and I love the interaction. Just my opinion.

In the words of ZeroPunctuation:

"I've never really understood the almost crusader-like fervour that consoles attract, most people would say it's because your mom is only prepared to buy you one console and if it turns out you didn't pick the winner, the best thing to do is to go into denial until the very fabric of reality changes, because god knows thats more likely to happen than you admitting fault.
Speaking as a person who is able to afford all the consoles, this is probably the most balanced generation of all time with it all coming down to what you personally want from a console.

If consoles where dogs:
- The Wii is an excitable little yappy bastard, good with kids, but a little exhausting.

- The PS3 is a big dependable black monster, slow, but lovingly bringing in your slippers every morning,

- And the 360 is just a good ol' rounder that occasionally pisses itself and dies."

Again, not my words, but still funny.
