should i create an app store account on a jailbroken iphone 3gs

My guess he used Blackra1n to JB, isnstalled blacksn0w and deleted the blackra1n app...
Why do you want cydia? ill be blunt, you dont seem to have much of a clue on the phone, you can really bugger it up with cydia if you dont know what you are doing.
I have a mate who i have unlocked for, and i done the same (deleted BRa1n after unlock) so he cannot use cydia, as i know he will just install random things from it and ill have to fix it again for him.
What Firmware are you running? (Settings>General>About off the top of my head)

You miss out on a lot without Cydia, but sure, he doesn't NEED Cydia. He may find he WANTs it though.
I do agree with the n00bness though. He may be better off not having Cydia. At least it'll end this thread.

nope, there is nothing wrong, its just an option to install it, your friend prob didnt install it.
as for how it would harm your phone, it all wouldnt really harm your phone, but you might find yourself in a position where you would have to restore (had this once since xmas) and you will need to restore and jailbreak/unlock the phone yourself. which would be tricky as you'll have to upgrade to 3.1.3 to restore and no unlock exists (as far as i know) for that FW on 3GS.
What is it that your looking to do in cydia?
