So, my applecare just expired on my 2011 MBP, after having the logic board replaced twice on this model in its warranty time as well as a currently failing battery I figure its only a matter of time before I have to replace it entirely.

My question is, should I go to the MB or buy another MBP? I want a retina screen for sure. Needs to be able to have photoshop, word, imessage, safari and chrome running all at once with no issues. Screen size doesnt really matter. I really like the form factor of the MB but im very wary of that usb c as well as that crippling processor...

thoughts?

As you're fully aware, the MB will not perform like the rMBP -- you should buy from Apple, try it for 14 days, and if you don't like it go swap it for a rMBP 13".... then, if you don't like it, go for the 15".

Seems like you wan the rMB, go try it. I suspect everything will pivot off how you feel Photoshop will perform.

If you're doing anything in photoshop besides very light editing with multiple applications open (especially safari and chrome) then the MacBook is not for you because of the processor.

I agree that what your photoshop needs are will dictate how this device will work for you. 'Need photoshop' ranges from people cropping and lightly adjusting images to heavily complex workflows. Only you know where you fit in that spectrum, and as such, you'd have to try the computer to find out if it works.
