Beta 7 came out roughly 3:30 Pacific which is 1 hour from now (Aug 31)

Why should you expect it today?

It wil be out the same time as the dev conference.

I'm going by the fact that macrumors posted it being released September 23rd, and all over twitter.

Apple is planning to release the eighth beta version of iOS 5 to developers this Friday, September 16th. A golden master version is planned to follow about a week later "on or around" September 23rd.

1. The article you're referring to stated "On or Around" Sept 23rd.

2. It also claimed an 8th beta would be released two weeks ago, it never was.

As much as I'd love the GM to come out today, as soon as the Beta 8 rumor turned out to be false I pretty much threw the GM rumor today out with it.

Once 3:40 pacific passes (the time of beta 7 release) I'm going to drive a stake into the heart of the GM until the event.

Maybe... I think iOS 4 was released before the iPhone 4 if I remember right to help not put an overwhelming amount of pressure on Apple's servers. I expect a release closer to October 4, with iTunes 10.5 and OSX 10.7.2 that day. With the new iPhone(s) being available for Pre-order that weekend or the 11th and then in stores October 14th.

Any takers?

really is this thread necessary at all?

Of course it's not. There are many other threads on the same topic, but simply adding a post to them does not result in the same 'look at me, look at me' gratification as starting a new thread.

The GM will most likely come out the day of the keynote whenever that turns out to be and about 5 days later release to the public. Reason for this is because most likely they have some new unannounced features like always such as voice recognition that they didn't present in June. They will show the new stuff off and include it in the GM release so devs can get familiar with the new features before the final release.

I am running iTunes 10.5, 10.7.2, and iOS5. I am practically in the future, and let me tell you: it's not that different.

But honestly these next two weeks are going to be amazing for changes in technology.
Amazon's tablet, Apple's offerings, Facebook's new rollout, etc.

They prob won't release a GM until ip5 is released. The fact that no new version of the beta has been released is prob another solid clue that it's ready and ip5 is actually just around the corner.
