I ve been wanting to get a Macbook pro for sometime now, mine is reaching its 4th year and I feel I need a change. I do video editing and animation and its been getting harder and harder as time passes. I want the 16gb ram, 2.8 quadcore, 512gb. 2gb video card. Its one of the most expensive ones. So... Should I wait for an update or its a good time to buy it? Thank you for taking the time to answer and advice me.

rMBP didn't have any significant changes since mid-2012 when it was first introduced. That's 2.5 years, and it looks like Broadwell will finally bring power efficiency to the next level. I'm also expecting Thunderbolt 3 with 5K external display support.

The rMBP is mid-cycle. If you're ok with waiting what could easily be six months for the next update, do it. If you want one now, buy one now.

There's always newer, better technology lurking around the corner. DDR4 RAM, more efficient CPUs, etc. But, if you decide not to wait it will still be a huge improvement over your four year old hardware.

Looks like you'd be waiting for Skylake to bring Thunderbolt 3/Mini DisplayPort 1.3. Late 2015 at the earliest.

If you decide to wait, then it will be on Intel's time frame, i.e., Apple isn't going to release anything until Broadwell hits the streets.

If you have an immediate need, then buy now, otherwise wait.

I was going to wait, but Im glad I didn't. I would have just been without this beautiful machine for such a long time!

Yeah that sounds right I guess. Anyway, I'm not really eager to spend 2-3K to replace a laptop that's perfectly adequate for everything I do
