I'm ready to jump ship, the times of me paying for a laptop that costs 2800 euros ( a macbook pro 15" with dedicated gpu ) are over so I want to get a dell xps 15" .

Windows 10 anniversary update looks quite nice, so I dont mind.

My question is should I get the dell XPS 15 now or wait for a possible kaby lake refresh?

Dell uses different cpu models than apple, so maybe they will update their XPS line with kaby lake this year.

I'm using a computer from friend (with windows 10) but I have to give it back to him on the first week of Auust, I need a new laptop, but I'm willing to wait until mid october (my university starts again at that time).

What do you think ?

I jumped ship last Monday as I made the decision to go back to a Windows laptop and ordered the Dell XP 15 with a 1080p (FHD) Screen. Windows on boot camp wasn't working about (especially the resolution) and I'll need a windows machine when I go back to college. Besides, it was getting umconfortable looking at windows 10 on a MacBook as it was very eye straining to read (even after going 200% higher in text scaling or whatever it was called).

For Kaby Lake, you may waiting for a while, especially on macs as they were just announced. IF, and I mean IF, there is a Mac refresh in September, it will probably be Skylake. Even then, you'll probably be waiting until October at the earliest to get it as it will come out the same time as MacOS Sierra.

Finally, my advice, go with what you need. That's what I did.

Though I've heard Windows 10 is a good OS (through BootCamp I'll still occasionally use it if I have to for Windows only software), for me, past experience with Windows prevents me from ever going back to it. As far as Skylake vs Kaby Lake, personally, after months and months of hype, I've lost interest in Skylake, it's become old news to me. Late this year, by the time Apples new MBP actually becomes available, Kaby Lake will have either been already in use by other laptop manufacturers or so close to being implemented that not having it in a 'newest version' laptop will make it seem already outdated.

As usual, if you 'need' a laptop 'now', there are great examples available to buy. But, if you don't need one now, at least wait for the Holiday buying season to see what becomes available and at a Holiday sales price.

Like I said I'm done with MacBook pros , maybe I'll get an iMac down the line , but I don't care what apple is releasing at the end of the year I'm not getting a MacBook pro again :(
