Congrats on the new mini! :) Did you get the mini1 or the rMini? I use iBooks for pdfs and I think that is free. I'll have to try pdf expert.

So another question...what cases do you guys recommend for the mini? Also, do you guys use keyboards with yours? If so, which ones?

Thanks! I got the mini, i'm a little pressed on money being a college student and all haha. I think ill survive without the retina display screen...for now haha.

I bought one for the same reason. The thing I like most about the iPad Mini is the form factor. It's small and light. My mom has a kindle fire HD 8.9 and I don't like it too much, maybe it's because I'm not used to it yet, but I just can't see myself using a kindle... And yes pages can be .docx compatible, it would be a lot better if you had pages on your mac, but in case you didn't know you can use pages on icloud dot com. Plus it syncs with your MBA so you can just continue where you left off

Kindle really is not very student friendly, in my opinion anyways. You can't even get dropbox or google docs on it. I will definitely be looking at the iCloud site to put my documents in. It would be awesome if they would just sync up, that way i don't have to mess with dropbox or anything.

I study off of my Kindle, which is pretty much the same size an haven't had a problem. My actual problem is studying on a device and not from an actual paper book. Im trying to get myself use to reading textbooks on my laptop, kindle, and if/when I get my iPad mini, on that too.

Dumb question, but can you download adobe reader on the device? I think that may make the PDFs a lot easier for me to read if I can do it that way.

Yes! I use it for my PDFs in class.

The documents do sync with iCloud when you use Pages. You can use Pages on your mac, enable "Documents in the cloud" and they will be in Pages on your iPad Mini - Which should be a free app download

Got it!

Hi all!

First off, thank you for all of your replies. It really helped out! I got my iPad last night and didn't get to play with it until this morning (too many drinks at the bar). So far though, I LOVE it! I think that this will be an awesome tool for me to use at school! I ordered a case and a keyboard for it as well. This iPad will eliminate me carrying around my MBA at school and being constantly worried about it. I also downloaded my kindle app on the iPad and now have all of my books on it :). I just have a couple questions, how do I access my pages documents on my mac from my iPad. Also, how does the feature, "back to mac" work? It seems like an interesting feature that I would like to explore!

Download/install the Pages app on the iPad. It should be free. I'm assuming you're all set on iCloud for the docs to sync through there.

I've not used it, but perhaps this will get you started: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2572

I think that my post may have been a little vague. To rephrase it, where would I find the documents on my mac? I do not have pages on my MBA, I do have word though.

You made the only smart choice OP. Rmini is the best. Im on mine now and no other tablet out right now can come close for form factor and comfort,

Wallpapers?

Do they move, or have I gone insane? Are they trying to give the 3D illusion? It's kind of annoying to me....

You can turn it off if you hate it but better ask first whether you should or should not. I mean, since this is the thread asking if you should spend your money or not. ;)

PS, I think pulled pork sandwiches for dinner sound good so take my advice and start cooking.

i never noticed that that's so weird!

and awesome

Haha isn't it though? I thought there was something wrong with me at first, studying for too long haha

u don't remember hearing reports about people getting sick from it? lol

That looks like it's talking about the way the apps open though haha. The entire background on the home screen moves and so does the lock screen!

this part also....

"Though Apple does include an accessibility option called "Reduce Motion," the feature seems to primarily remove the shifting parallax effect seen on the homescreen. However, it seems that most users aren't finding fault solely with the homescreen."

but i did same as you when i got my new rMini, i was like what the heck!

It was more of a question of is it better than a kindle haha. It definitely is, for a student anyways.

I must have missed that part haha. I literally didn't notice it though until I changed the wallpaper. Freaked me out for a minute haha.

You'd need Pages n your Mac as well. Alternately you can access via iCloud.com.

Thanks!

I accessed the document through I cloud, and if you export it as a PDF it prints without the date and url on the page! Im super excited about this and that i'll have my documents everywhere I go!
