You have 1 year included warranty so wait 11 months and see if theres any signs that it could breakdown and decide then

That is AppleCare +. I believe that is still US only and includes accident coverage.

Can you buy it when your 2 years (your in UK, correct) runs out?

Mac purchases have always been and remain 1 year. iOS derives and the like, is 60 days.

I was speaking of the U.S., and I *think* that AC+ is all that Apple offers on the MB/rMBP lineup in the U.S. If I'm wrong, I'd love to know because I've been looking for a less expensive AC (only, no +) contract for a new rMBP.

Thats right. I forgot they switched Macs to AppleCare+ as well.

...which, to me, was not a plus, and sort of a waste of money. On the other hand, people seem to spill drinks into their laptops fairly regularly, so for them it is (literally) a plus.

Just checked, it is 60 days (in the U.S., with AC+). I guess they worry that if they don't force you to buy (or not) within 60 days, people would buy it after they've spilled the coffee (but then wouldn't it fail the online diagnostics anyway???). https://www.apple.com/shop/product/S6033LL/A/applecare-plus-for-13-inch-macbook-pro

Yea I saw that, now that they are + as well the made it the 60 days. I would assume it would fail especially from some type of liquid.

I think it’s worth it.

Just had my 2015 MBP randomly crap out on me after 2.5 years (really no signs anything was wrong). Sent it in, Apple replaced both fans, the display, and the logic board all for free under the AppleCare warranty.

Considering that the 2017 MacBook Pros have a higher-than-normal probability of "keyboard failure", and that the out-of-warranty cost of repair for same is quite high -- AppleCare for a 2017 is probably advisable...

I saw that but it's 15/17" only (which is great for 15" owners) - as far as I can tell, if you can FIND a good price on an old AC plan, it works, but most of those seem to have been purchased and the few that remain are mostly at prices that are high enough that you (I) might just as well buy from Apple and deal with the 60 day limit. If you assume you're going to be able to find an old AC plan 10 months from now you're taking a big gamble, because you may not find one or prices may have gone up to AC+ levels (and you'll be outside the 60 day limit on AC+).

Basically not a great situation, but not exactly life-threatening either?

You could just sell the device each year for a minor loss and get a the new model when it comes out. This way you will always have warranty and never have to pay full price. You will always be in warranty.

I would get Apple Care because the keyboard is a problem for sure. Mine has been defective twice and who knows if the screen coating will wear off this generation (they didn't't get it right for four years so).

Jesus the price for old AC is out of control. Oh well, supply/demand and all that.
Guess I'll just knock on some wood and let the factory warranty expire. Hopefully I don't have to kick myself.
