Applecare would be a wise investment considering nothing on these laptops are upgradeable. If you look on eBay there are many good deals on used MacBook Pro 2017 models that already include Applecare + at a considerable savings over new. I'm typing on one right now.

Depends. Do you change laptops often? If you like me use a laptop for 3-5years. I suggest you get one. Considering most of the components are on one motherboard. Any failures will cost you a leg or arm. My GF just had a keyboard problem with her MacBook. They replaced the whole thing from keyboard to motherboard to hard dive. Luckily its in the first year. You can find great deals on AC+ on eBay, slightly cheaper than apple.

Ok I went through this 2 months ago in a chat with a representative from Apple. You can contact Apple directly via telephone to buy regular AppleCare that you used to be able to buy within 1 yr purchasing period. It’s $250 vs $269 Plus.

I’m still on the fence about buying AppleCare so I appreciate the fact i can purchase this with 1 yr.

I don’t care about accidental damage. I’ve never spilled or crack my laptop screen in 17yrs of using laptops. I’ve never damaged the casing.

I really need to get AMEX next time I purchase electronics.

Buy Applecare on Mac. I have and I've often needed the service.

I had purchased AppleCare on the previous design iteration of 15" MPB (2012 model year). 1 month before expiry of the 3 year warranty, due to repeated failures, Apple gave me a brand new machine with current gen specs.
