Hey everyone, I am thinking of getting the iPad Pro 11 inch 256GB model for my Birthday. :D:D

But the problem is that I have a 3 year old iPad Air 2 64GB model which it is definitely still going very strong, very fast in loading up apps, games and websites and I am still getting a least 8 to 10 hours of screen on time(100% to 5%), so the battery life is still very good.

I use my iPad Air 2 every single day and the Air 2 is definitely still more then good enough for things that I do on the iPad like browsing the Internet, watching videos and playing the occasional game and that all what I pretty much do on the Air 2 at the moment, very basic uses, so I would be happy to use my iPad Air 2 for another year. :)

On the other hand though, to be honest, I am hesitant using my iPad Air 2 for another year because I am on IOS 9.3.4 and the problem that I am having is that most of the apps and games that I would really really like to install but I can't unfortunately because it always says that the app/game requires IOS 10 or later which it is definitely not good at tall and is definitely very very annoying and frustrating to say a least.

To be honest I really don't understand why Apple allow this to happen in the 1st place because on Android and Windows you can install any program/app/game no matter what OS version you are on, So Apple really really definitely should do the same, that is the only one thing that I hate about Apple.

The reason that I am still on IOS 9.3.4 is that I want my iPad to still be very fast and smooth in terms of performance and I definitely don't want my Air 2 to slow down and become laggy because of the new features that Apple have added especially in IOS 11(Dock, File manager, improved multitasking)and want to be able to keep using my classic 32 bit apps/games that you won't get on IOS 12 anymore, but honestly not be able to install any more apps/games might really get to me at the end and annoy/frustrate me too much which could be a bigger bigger problem in the future.

For me I definitely prefer and value to have very very fast and smooth performance then having new features that will most probably slow down the Air 2, So I am very very hesitate to upgrade to IOS 12 just in case it slows down my iPad Air 2 a lot but I might have no choice but to upgrade to IOS 12 in order to install new apps and games if I don't get the iPad Pro 11 inch.

On a a lot more positive note, So by upgrading to IOS 12 on my iPad Air 2 will definitely make it and feel like a completely new tablet/iPad again which it will be definitely be awesome because I have had my Air 2 on IOS 9.3.4 for over 2 years now and it definitely feels always the same. :)

Anyway since the new 2018 iPad Pro 11 inch model came out couple months ago, I really really wanted to buy the iPad Pro 2018 because it will definitely definitely be a massive massive upgrade in everything(bigger display, very fast/powerful, bigger battery, USB-C, lots more) and is so much more better tablet then my iPad Air 2. :D:D

If I do get the iPad Pro 11 inch 256GB model, I would definitely only be getting just the tablet, I won't be getting the Apple Smart Keyboard Folio not at 1st anyway but might still get it in the future though but I am definitely not getting the Apple Pencil 2 because I absolutely have no use for it, I am no artist or anything like that, not really interested in drawing, designing, things like that.

It seems that according to reviews from lots of users and from big tech websites such as CNET, The Verge and lots more that the iPad Pro 11 inch is definitely the ultimate iPad and a beast of a tablet!!

Just to say if I do not get the iPad Pro 11 inch and do keep using my iPad Air 2 for a least another year then I will definitely be upgrading to a definitely so much more better and more powerful iPad next year(for my next Birthday), I definitely know that for sure!!

So I definitely have a very big big decision to make in the near future, weather to get the iPad Pro 11 inch 256GB model or keep using my iPad Air 2 64GB model for a least another year.

Everyone, Should I get the iPad Pro 11 inch or keep using my iPad Air 2 for another year?? What would you do?? Should I upgrade to IOS 12 on my iPad Air 2 if I don't get the iPad Pro 11 inch?? o_Oo_O

I had the iPad mini 4 and recently upgraded to the iPad Pro 11 inch 2018 and what I can say is that this feels like a totally different device. the way you interact with the OS, being able to splitscreen everything (even two safari windows) the speed, and the 120hz. This device is in a totally different ballgame then all the previous iPads imo.

I would atleast update to iOS 12 and see where you sit after that. iOS 12 does quite well even in older devices and if you go to the iPad Pro, you’ll be losing those older 32bit games anyways

Update, see how you like it and then you will know for sure

I actually just upgraded to the iPad Pro 11 from an Air 2. It feels like a big upgrade to be honest. Everything from loading apps to watching YouTube videos seem way faster now. I always thought there was an issue with my home WiFi because YouTube/Instagram, etc videos would lag and take a bit to load, but on the iPad Pro 11, they load/start almost immediately. That right there showed me the lag of the Air 2. Don’t get me wrong, the Air 2 is still a capable device, but I’ve had it since it launched back in 2014 and for me, it was time for an upgrade due to the slowness and the battery life on it was now terrible.

My iPad Air 2 is running iOS 12 and I haven’t seen any slowdowns. I’m sure the Pro is much faster, but my Air 2 is more than useable.

I have an air 2 under iOS12. TO ME, it’s really slow. Some people are ok with lag and stuttering UI, but those who say they don’t notice ANY slowdown...i wonder which apps they use.

I’ll suggest getting the 11” since it will be an amazing upgrade from the Air 2 and iOS 9. If you have 32-bit apps that you’d still like to use and can’t use on iOS 12 since they were never upgraded, then also keep your Air 2 on iOS 9 so as you can keep using them. I use a 12.9” gen 3 now, but one of my other devices is an iPad 3 which can’t be upgraded and I’m happy with that since its purpose now is to have some 32-bit games on it that would be lost otherwise.

Well, I LOVE my 11” pro, but I used a 2018 6th gen iPad between owning my two 12.9 pros and buying this 11” pro, and I almost didn’t wind up going back pro because, really, the 6th gen did everything I NEEDED it to do, and of course for a lot less money.

I wound up biting the bullet (and I haven’t regretted it) mainly because my iPad is my primary computing device since I ditched my iMac (and have never owned a laptop), and I decided I wanted an overall more “premium” experience. I have to say that yes, I do get that with the larger, nicer display, smaller bezels, Face ID, better pencil (and I use my pencil a decent amount), better speakers, more ram and I went for a bit more storage.

However, if I had other devices and the iPad was pretty much just for play, IDK if I would see the same value in the pro model. I mean sure if you play tons of games or watch tons of movies, but for the day-to-day, that 6th generation is nice for roughly 1/3 the price.

I just upgraded from a 128gb Air 2 to the iPad Pro 10.5, and it's fantastic. I was running the latest iOS and experiencing no lag or slowness whatsoever.

But I found a great deal on a 256gb Pro 10.5, so I bought both it and the smart keyboard. I think I spent $600 total for the new device.

Besides all the spec upgrades, ProMotion makes a huge difference. In-hand usage just feels faster.

I checked out the 11, and I'll note I was wowed by it in a way that I haven't been by the iPad previously, but at the same time, the setup I have gotten would have cost more than $1000.

It's totally worth it, and you can find Pro 10.5s for a great deal. Apple sells them refurbished, even.

Either way, I wouldn't worry about at least keeping the device you have up to date in terms of software.

I would recommend a 2018 iPad for you. For what you do, that 2018 iPad is definitely a perfect fit, especially if you don’t need the new pencil. The first gen pencil will be an option if you choose to get one. I use one with my iPad Pro 10.5 (VERY happy with the 10.5, even more that it’s cellular) and I’m very happy with it. Battery lasts longer than I thought and it takes an incredibly small amount of time to charge it through either the iPad itself or by using the adapter with it that lets you charge it with an iPhone or iPad charger.

The 2018 iPad Pro models would be a waste of money for what you specifically need out of an iPad.

You should answer a more fundamental question first... "Do I want to be on the leading edge or am I ok with a device that simply gets the job done?"

The differences between the Pro and non-Pro has grown (including the pricetag). Obviously the Pros have more of just about everything. The question is, is the "more" worth the extra cost? Are you the type that will get something like the 2018 iPad and then feel like you're being "left out" by not owning an iPad Pro?

People sometimes engage in hyperbole to justify their purchases... and that's fine for them, but we should each examine our own needs and wants to put the appropriate value on those "extra" features found on the more expensive models.

If you are the type of person who will feel left out, then get the 11" Pro. But if you are ok with having an excellent high quality tablet, then I recommend waiting a few weeks to see if Apple announces an update to the 2018 iPad. I don't recommend getting the 2018 iPad at the moment because you just missed out on some great sales. If there is no update in March, then wait for the next sale on the 2018 iPad and get it.

Regardless, here's a valuable tip: Never pay MSRP for a new iPad (Pro or non).

update: Amazon is currently selling the 2018 iPad for $250 (32GB, space gray) and $330 (128GB, silver)
