Agree on both counts

If you want to give a child a phone, give him a simplified one. I know of a few who have given their 12-13 year olds those custom phones that allow their kids to call 5 friends (pre-selected), parents, and other family. That is it.

jesus, 10! and my parents thought i was too young at 12, and i bought all of my stuff myself. no help from my parents at all. i pay for my cell service too! 😀

his mother (with whom I have joint custody of my son with) has no cell phone and at times it can be very hard to arrange pick ups and drop offs.

Maybe you should give HER the phone and add her to your plan for $30 a month.

even an ipod sounds crazy for a 10 year old. Also, who is he going to call ? I didn't get my first cell phone till I was 21... I think there are more educational things you could put your money towards, but thats my opinion.

Of course you shouldn't give it to him! Does he really need a phone? If he really needs one, get one that won't get stolen and that he can't surf the web with. Who knows what he might be looking at when you aren't watching.

Yeah, I really don't think a 10-year-old needs phone at all, let alone an iPhone. But my brother (who is 12) has had phones since he was 10 I think. And yeah, he loses them and breaks them all the time. Not a good idea, in my opinion.

I think what most are saying is that the iPhone is a little too much for the child at such a young age (may break it, internet usage, etc...)

There are phones out there that can be bought that are cheap and simple which his son can use, imo

If not then give him the iPhone without a cell phone plan...which essentially turns it into an iPod Touch. Just know that the thing will probably be in bad shape in a year.

Personally I'd probably sell the old one on eBay either way. If he needs a phone get him a cheap pay as you go phone...then get him a cheap iPod or something for music/video.
