I recently purchased a refurbished Mac Mini i7 from the apple store, but I'm having second thoughts of if the Mac Mini will be enough or if I should of waited for intel's next processor (which looks to be really good) and the next generation of Mac Mini.

I'm going to be mainly using it for school, ie
    Matlab and R
    Kurzweil 3000
    LaTeX (LyX specifically)
but also a bit of causal gaming: Torchlight 2, Lol, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Bioshock 1 & 2, ect.

Would the Mac Mini (and the intel hd 4000) be enough, or should I have waited 6-7 months for the next generation?

    Thanks

I doubt the next Mini will be out in 6-7 months. Traditionally the Mini isn't updated until the release of all other Macs. In 2011, the Sandy Bridge processors were released in January and the Mini wasn't updated until July. In 2012, Ivy Bridge was released in April and the Mini wasn't updated until October. Haswell isn't set to be released until June, so we aren't looking at updated Mini's until probably November/December.

You might as well buy now. You can sell your 2012 when the 2013's come out and all you are out is probably a couple hundred + you got 9-10 months of use. Just my .02 worth.
