Should I leave my MBP charging all the time and use it like a desktop?

Lithium Ion / Lithium Polymer batteries do not like to go below 20% if it can be helped.

Check out: https://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries

It's a lot to read but --- basically: 1. Avoid heat. 2. Don't let charge drop too low. 3. Don't leave at 100% for long periods of time (1 month+).

Thanks for the link.

I should have mentioned I also do this to my iPad lol.

So that my MacBook, iPhone & iPad f**ked then lol.

As they say you learn something new everyday, just need to try my best to implement these rules in my daily life, not like I have enough stuff to remember lol

Oh yeah, one thing I like about this site is that I usually learn something new every day.

Apple does a pretty good job with its battery management, so even if you do run it below 20% now and then it shouldn't hurt the battery terribly over the long run. It is easy to get very OCD about battery care. In the end, like posters said on the last page, enjoy your device, if needed a small $ fee gets you a new battery. :p

I put my MBP to sleep every night and shut off the power. Next day, when it wakes up, the battery shows approx. 80% charge. I reconnect the power and let it recharge to 100% for the rest of the day. This keeps the juices flowing, which I think is important and is reflected in what Apple (used to) preach, as we saw from contributors below. I have never had any problem with batteries/battery health etc. My son keeps his MBP connected to a power source all the time and has to buy a new battery about once a year. I'm convinced that batteries fry if they're connected to power constantly. My two cents worth. YMMV.

I just read Apple new features in iOS 13 or Catalina (?) where the system automatically stop the charging until 80% and continue the charging when user wake-up the system.
I think this reflect the best treatment to the battery.
- Charge up to 80%, unless you are working on it it’s ok to put the plugged in (which keep charge 100%)
- When you put sleep, it’s best to do that at 80%
