Should I let this battery die out from the start?

Doesn't matter. Charge and discharge your phone however is convenient for you. It won't affect battery health.

You can use your iPhone straight out of the box. It doesn't require any initial charging to use. And I would not allow it to drain entirely.

I never let my phone drain down to 0% and never had issues with the battery.
