Went to PayPal and before final checkout I noticed their sales tax is higher than my county sales tax. Probably cheaper to get through Apple with 10% off and correct sales tax. Or, price match against BHPhotoVideo with Payboo that reimburses sales tax. Also, check return policy where Apple is probably more flexible.

Okay - glad you are comparison shopping. I purchased my 14" M1 Max/64gb/1tb directly from Apple because I had a trade-in and they offered the best price. BTW: I keep hearing about the memory leak and I am sure it exist but I have not had issues with it. FWIW.

Did you have any issues with your trade-in process? I've heard terrible stories regarding it and since I've just received my new 14" Max, I have to ship off my old 2018 MBP by Monday. I am going to take plenty of pictures / videos of doing everything proper before sending it so I just hope Phobio doesn't try and pull some funny business.

If they do, I'll just open an investigation through Apple or have them send it back and trade it in at an Apple store.

What are you planning to use the machine for?

Just because its a discount on a high end configuration, doesn't mean its a good buy for your circumstances.

If you do not need that power today, buy something more appropriate, pocket the difference, and use it to upgrade sooner.

Just be aware that B&H only allows returns of computers that are unopened - the packaging cannot even be unsealed.

Looks like standard education or military discount to me.

That is what I did. Traded in my MBA 2017 with Apple that was giving fair value for it. Brought down the price of the M1 Max stock config by USD 350. It is a business expense for me, so I can offset taxes paid on this machine with taxes payable in my business. That brings down the effective cost by another USD 680 roughly, since I will offset these taxes with future taxes payable.

I had bad experience with SimplyMac last time when buying a HomePod mini. The delivery took too long and it wasn't transparent at all. I personally wouldn't buy anything from them again.

With B&H, the problem is that their return policy fro laptops is rather unfriendly (15% restocking fee). So be careful there.
