Hi,

So I've just got the iPhone 7 Plus and I've ran into some problems. Should I return it?

Problem 1: hissing, the phone hisses when you put it right on your ear and you can hear a buzzing sound like bz bz and cracking noises coming out of the back of the phone. It is only noticeable when you hold it against your ear, but it's also slightly noticeable if you put the front of the phone against your ear.

Problem 2: the top speaker hisses (more than the bottom one) when you play audio on a high volume

Problem 3: the high pitched noise (problem 1) is being picked up in videos in quite rooms, it is not noticeable in videos which are taken is noisier rooms.

1. If it really bugs you that much go ahead. My 7 Plus sim-free 256 GB week 41 does not hiss at all and I don't hear any hiss noise. Also I don't intentionally put it in my ear just to hear it. I just use my phone as intended.

2. Might be a defect but maybe check it out at the genius bar and see what they say about this.

3. Now if it hisses/buzz while recording video then that's different and should be replaced.

Hers's how I approach issues with Apple and any other expensive things I buy...

If Apple had a disclaimer (similar to Jet Black easily scratching) that said something like "iPhone 7/7+ can and will hiss, buzz etc.." then I could live with that, it was my decision to accept it.

Shove it down Apple's throat my friend.....iPhones are NOT supposed to "hiss", "buzz", "creak & crack", etc..

If we don't send them back in droves then Apple just assumes we are fine with their heinous inconsistent build quality and outsourcing of modems, displays, chipsets to multiple suppliers creating VERY different iPhones...

SEND IT BACK

If it hisses, something's wrong. Plain and simple - I would personally 100% return it and make sure they give me a new in package phone and not a refurbished one. You didn't pay for a broken products, nor for a refurbished one.

They said they'd give me a brand new one, but I think it will probably come in one of those white packages. He also claimed all iPhone 7 Plusses do hiss..

An official Apple representative "confirms" that all iPhone 7 plus models are hissing?
Go to a different store, ... that's utter bs.

It was more like 'It's normal for the phones to hiss'.

I have a feeling if you call them and say, hi, my iPhone does not hiss and i was told that's supposed to be the case .. can I return my phone for a hissing one? They will confirm to you it's not supposed to hiss ..

If you dont want to trade in a hissing phone, go ahead ; i know i will without hesitation.

Ask yourself whether you can hear the hiss during normal use. Is it normal for you to hold the back of the phone right up to your ear? If not, I'd keep the phone. If that's how you usually use the phone, then swap it.

Return phone. Purchase new one. I had earlier 7 plus returned it bought black iPhone 7 plus from Verizon they overnighted phone to me. Was built in week 40 . Zero issues with phone . I will be keeping this one.

if it bothers you return it for sure if not? don't.

it's your money end of the day and you need to be happy with it.

I have a 7 Plus since day 2 of release. I cannot detect a hiss or issues other than the Compass App being very deviated in both True & North only modes.

How does one discern the Build Week that was mentioned a few times in this thread?

Just get it exchanged. Chances are a new unit won't have the same problem.
