My iMac Pro runs really well, still fast and still not making any noise. On the other hand, a portable Macbook Pro with M2 has some advantages. Its monitor has higher resolution, and it’s portable.

Hypothetically speaking, who would buy a second-hand iMac Pro when M2 machines pop up on the market?

I sold my iMac Pro last year and replaced it with an M1 iMac. I haven't regretted the decision for a second - the M1 is faster on single-core tasks and is much quieter than the iMac Pro. And I recouped as much value as possible given the dead-end iMac Pro. And I hear the M2 is faster than the M1.

I would not buy the M2 MBP. The M1 MacBook Air and the base 14" MBP are both a much better deal.

The screen on the 14" MBP is better than the iMac Pro's in some respects but it is still very small compared to a 27". The screen on the M2 MBP is inferior to the iMac Pro's in all respects.

If the iMac Pro is meeting your needs I don't see the need to immediately upgrade. The next generation of Pro level Macs will be even better than the current generation (The 13" M2 MBP is not really a Pro level Mac).

I thank you!!

You could also consider an iPad Pro especially with the paradigm shift coming with the OS updates later this year that will really take productivity to new levels.

I have an 2nd generation iPad Pro, which does increase productivity in many new ways. But there is one thing. I practice on a digital piano. Now I input music score in Logic Pro X on iMac Pro. So I have to switch between piano chair and desk chair. If I have a laptop, I could put it on top panel of the piano, cable it to the digital piano, and work directly in Logic Pro X while sitting on the piano chair.

I am not choosing between two desktops. I like to have a laptop with Logic Pro X to work with my digital piano. The iMac Pro is too big to put on top of the Piano. Money is tight for me, so I am thinking about iMac Pro for a macbook.

I know, but the performance of the M1 in an iMac is the same as it is in the 13" MBP. And the M2 13" MBP should be even faster. You're looking at a major performance increase.

Unfortunately I don't have much insight into who your potential iMac Pro customers would be.
