i would want the second configuration, 2.4 ghz with nothing added. My configuration is in my sig. i would be using the edu store, and im wondering if i sell my mac, do you think it would pay for that configuration? I dont really need 3gb of ram or 4. How much do you think my mac would go for if i was to sell it on ebay?

Why sell it unless there is a compelling advantage of the newer one? If you try to keep pace with the latest or greatest, you will be selling every year and you'll be spending a lot of money. Only do it if you really think it's worth it and you will gain something from it. Remember the new one will be outdated in a few short months.

Any AppleCare on the machine? That alone coupled with the MBP could possibly pay for a new 15" 2.4GHz model. Not here but of course on eBay. Is there any particular reason why you're thinking of selling? What you have is no slouch and the performance gains are minimal.

i probably wont sell it but im just wondering if its worth it at all too. Yeah the performance gains are minimal, i know that, but is the led screen worth it?

also i have no applecare and its almost a year old, is it worth getting that on it too since im probably going to keep it?

    I would skip it.

Also most people doesn't seem to think the led screen is perfect either so ..

Keep the one you have and get Applecare on it. The performance gains are minimal, battery increase is minimal, and everything else is the same. For the money you save keeping yours you get Applecare and in a year or two get a bigger HD.

Whether you should get AppleCare is entirely up to you. If you can afford an out of warranty repair or would simply purchase a new computer should your current MBP go down, then no. Bear in mind, AppleCare can more than pay for itself should your MBP need to go into be serviced. Opinions vary but I typically purchase AppleCare for my notebooks, generally because of the smaller components in a 1" enclosure, coupled with the fact that it's being transported on a daily basis, greatly increase the odds of something failing somwhere along the line.

I would say no. You're better off waiting a few years and getting the latest and greatest then. You seem fine with what you have now.

Does your education discount limit you to a number of computer purchases per year? I know the school my wife was in limited her to one Mac purchase per year, two displays, and one iPod. I'd definitely check the terms before you rush out to make a sale. This is what Apple is trying to prevent by limiting purchases of education machines.

It's one laptop per year, one desktop per year, one of a few other things (displays maybe?), unlimited ipods, and I think unlimited apple tv's. But yeah, laptops it's limited so it would need to be a whole year before another laptop purchase.

I second that. I've had mine for 6 months and it still rocks, so I figured I'd wait for the quad core with 6 hours of battery life and touch screen :D
