Hi

I'm considering whether to buy a "Logitech Circle View" security camera now or wait. My understanding is that HomeKit Secure Video (HSV) in its current form won't be available much longer.

What I've gathered:
  • First consumer devices with full Matter video integration are expected by end of 2026
  • By 2027, I'd like any new camera purchase to meet "Matter Video ready" criteria
Has anyone followed recent developments on Matter video streaming? Is it worth holding off on an HSV-based camera now, or should I proceed with the purchase and upgrade later?

I don't recommend buying a Logitech Circle View camera, it's probably the worst choice in a camera at the moment. There are Matter Certified Cameras available but I would not get to excited about that feature yet either.

It really depends on where you plan on using the camera and some of the other details that meet your specific needs.

Thank you. I'd like to have the camera by the front door so I can see when the mail carrier delivers a package. Unfortunately, they never ring our doorbell, and the package ends up sitting outside for a very long time.

I've had a Logitech Circle View for a few years now. For Apple Home compatible cameras the quality is pretty good, it has the highest bitrate of all my cameras. Its also been outside in the elements for years and still working.

It seems a bit old to recommend, if something better is around the corner I would wait.

The Logitech Circle View HSV cameras (in my experience) has been very flaky and relies on a good home network otherwise you may experience drop off and require a reasonable good network / mobile connection(s) to view the camera feed on the Home app. Like others have mentioned, the Logitech camera is a little dated and Matter protocol isn't quite there yet therefore suggest holding off until the internet comes back with glowing feedbacks.

If I were to chose another camera I may be look at a hardwired Reolink camera(s) using the native app. If you really wish to view this on the Home app, it may be possible to port the video feed via Scrypted or Homebridge.
