I bought an iPhone 15 pro in a shopping center. It has some factory defects on the chassis (5 minor scratches) but works perfectly well. I'm disgusted by this but the mall wouldn't exchange it for me.
I have 40 days left to subscribe to Apple care +.
Is it a good idea to pay for Apple care + to enjoy my phone without protection and the day I drop my phone and the screen breaks I request an express replacement to recover a new phone which this time will not present damage?
When have we done an express replacement, we systematically get a new phone or sometimes they repair our phone and send it back to us?

Are replacement phones really clean? What would bother me the most is paying for AppleCare + having a replacement and having even more defects on the replacement phone.

I have never used Apple Care+

It’s completely up to you. I always have AC+ because I typically use my iPhone without a case and I also have two young kids. So I know no matter how careful I am, accidents happen. I had to use express replacement earlier this year when my iPhone fell on concrete. The replacement looked just like new and then I sent the damaged phone back to them. Pretty easy and seamless process to be honest.

But only you can decide if AC+ works for you and your needs.

I always get AC+ for my and my wife's phones. We upgrade annually. She uses a case, I don't. While I've only had to use it a few times over the years, the peace of mind is absolutely worth it for me. When I've had to replace a phone through AC+ it was either brand new or indistinguishable from brand new. Happy customer in either case.

It was a used unit? The defects weren't disclosed at purchase? If not new and it was a deceptive sale you could dispute on your credit card.

I don't think it's second-hand. The charge cycle was well at 0. Date of manufacture November 2023 activated in August 2024 I think it's stock they've had for a while.

The box has been sealed

This is suspicious to me, for what it's worth. As you can tell from my .sig, I've had every flagship iPhone since the original. My wife also upgrades annually with me. I always get our phones directly from Apple or from our carrier, depending on which year we're talking about. Basically, I get them from places I can trust.

We've never had a single scratch on any of those devices upon unboxing. The fact that you had 5 is suspicious.

Legitimate retail outlets allow a return within a reasonable period of time (e.g., with the Apple Store you get a two week return policy). The fact that the 'mall' (not sure what this means ... was this a kiosk in the mall?) won't take a return adds to the suspicion.

Not sure that there's much you can do about it other than maybe be more judicious about where you purchase expensive electronics in the future

My shopping center only accepts returns if the product is not open or used.

I think I'm unlucky because I usually buy my iPhones from the Apple Store and I've always had at least a small scratch on each of my iPhones. Or I am too severe because it is true that they are micro scratches on white titanium so not visible according to the light.

Maybe the quality control on light iPhones is less strict since the scratches will be less visible than on a black model.

I usually get Apple Care on my iPhone because I take it everywhere. But, over the years, I have gotten away from buying Apple Care for anything else. My iPads and Macs stay at home. And I especially wouldn’t get Apple Care for an entry-level device, such as a base MacBook Air, an iPhone SE or an Apple TV. It completely destroys the value proposition of low-priced devices.

Have never purchased Apple Care and have never been in a situation where I could have used it. We all treat our devices differently though.

AppleCare+ is insurance, and like any insurance… it’s only worth it if you use it. So the real question is, does the peace of mind of not having to pay big bux worth the cost of AC+?

I do keep it on my phones. But each person needs to decide for themselves.

I was in the same boat as you.

I bought a 15 Pro a couple of months ago, and I also thinking of getting the AC+ or not.
I decided to buy the AC+.

I don’t use a case but I use a screen cover because I hate scratches on the screen.

A couple of days ago I did have on a small balcony table on vacation, and the vibrations on the table sent the phone into the stone floor.
Nothing happened with the frame, just a crack on the screen cover.
Normally I should freaked out if I hadn’t had AC+, but now I didn’t really cared.

So for me it’s just some peace of mind to have it.

the new OLED screens are expensive as f to repair with Apple. For the old LCD screens I never got AppleCare, but nowadays I get the monthly one.

I have AppleCare+ on all my Apple devices for peace of mind in case something happened, and I have children at home. I love the fact that if my iPhone was stolen, I could get another one without paying full price. I’m a mail carrier, and lately we have been targeted for robberies, so I’m praying I’m not the next one.
