Ok, so I think I'm going to go with the 32GB air.

From what I've read, I shouldn't hold my breath for a 2GB RAM iPad as it will not be as soon as expected (if at all).

I also want to be able to see it easily so I'd be going full size.

Thanks for the input on screen protectors. I'll skip them.

My main decision now is A) whether or not I should get the Apple Care Plus warranty in addition to (or instead of) the Micro Center "1 Year Accidental Damage Protection Plan"?

I noticed the Apple Care is also an additional $49.00 deductible if you file a claim. There's no deductible with the $59.99 one-year Micro Center plan or $99.00 2-year plan.

and B) is there a better case (with soft inner liner) that I should get instead of the standard Apple Air leather case. There are tons but I'd like to get a high quality one.

I think that will do it unless I need a lightning cable in order to download my iTunes from my MBP or some other odd accessory.

The Air is kind of a bum generation, so if you don't need it, you should definitely either pick up an iPad 4 or wait for the Air 2.

As has been discussed elsewhere, certain iPads are better than others.

The 1, 3, and Air are not such good buys, while the 2, 4, and presumably the Air 2 (which should have 2 gigs of RAM) are/will be.

My original intention was to buy a 16GB iPad 4.

One of the reasons I've leaned toward the air is to get 32GB. I have not found the 4 (new) in any other configuration.

So that said, my choices are:

16GB iPad 4

or

32GB iPad Air

Do you still think the 4?

If you don't really need it, you may as well wait for the Air 2. You could always pick up a lightly used 32 GB 4 and see if you end up using it a lot, then if not and you sell it you won't lose much.

Although tons of people do, I prefer to buy this kind of stuff new. That said, I might be inclined to buy a 32GB 4 if I find one.

Otherwise, maybe I should just get the 16GB 4 as it's a pretty good price and I could always skip loading my iTunes collection onto it.

Any idea on when the iPad Air 2 will be announced or released (based on previous releases)?

That's what I thought. I don't think I want to wait 10 more months for my 1st iPad. I know it would be nice to get 2GB RAM but I'm not one that would keep Mail, 3-4 apps and 10 web pages open simultaneously so assuming I can run Mail, 1 or 2 apps and 3-4 webpages, I'm willing to just get the current 32GB Air or 16GB 4 and be enjoying an iPad tomorrow.

Now I can't decide on the 32GB Air or 16GB 4 again.

Air- $559
4- 399

If you buy a certified refurb from Apple it looks brand new as it comes with a NEW outer case and a new battery. If you aren't going to keep a lot of apps or music on the iPad 4 then 16GB should be plenty.

A 16GB iPad will fill up a lot quicker than you think. I don't understand the reason behind a 32GB Air vs a 16GB iPad 4?

I would say go get one. The air and rMini are the best tablets on the market. Just remember tablets aren't laptops they are media and entertainment devices.

The reason behind the 2 I'm looking at are:

iPad 4: If I want the older, cheaper iPad 4, it's only available new (as far as I've found) in the 16GB config. and I don't think it's worth buying an older version iPad than the iPad 4 (and I'd rather not buy used/refurb)

32GB Air: If I'm going to buy the "latest and greatest", I might as well skip the 16GB model and go with 32GB. I also don't need cellular as I have a verizon Jet Pack for the very few times a year I need that.

That's my reasoning.

Forget the iPad 4 16gb, too heavy, they get hot and 16 is too small, my wife has one but is ok for her as it is in a stand in kitchen and dining table. I use my Air on the couch and travel with it. 32gb 4g.

I say go for it now. I see no reason to wait and see what's next. You could do that forever. iPad Air is the best tablet out there and I've tried them all.

I hope your wife didn't or won't upgrade to ios7.

I haven't upgraded the OS of her iPad since she got it (iOS 5.1.1). She's happy with it and that's all that matters to her. So I figured if it's ain't broke, don't fix it. I on the other hand upgraded my iPhone 4s to iOS 7.0.4 because I also upgraded my late 2012 Macbook Pro to Mavericks. I'm very happy with both.

Is there a problem with that?

Go for the Air. Nothing wrong with the 4 but treat yourself to the latest and greatest unless money is a major concern. Forget worrying about RAM and whatever the next iPad might have. The hardware in the current Air is totally up to the task and millions of users are enjoying theirs all the time. There are some safari issues that need to be ironed out but it's being worked on. The Air will have the next overall experience of any of the iPads.

For the vast majority of users, the Air has been an excellent device. Do it!:D

Thanks guys. Thanks for the support. The Air it is. :)

Quick tech question maybe you know (before I ask in a different forum)

I have mail 6.6 (IMAP) running on my Macbook Pro. When I get the iPad and get it set up, will any mail I read on the iPad still be available (read or unread) on my MBP and vice-versa?

And, if I delete email after reading it on the iPad, will it be gone from the MBP?

Just not sure how that will work.

I also have several AOL accounts using AOL Desktop for Mac. I'm assuming those emails would have to be read through the AOL website if I want to read them on the iPad?

Thanks!

I'd wait for 7.1 and a price drop. Best Buy already had them on sale just recently. And lightning strikes twice with electronics when it comes to sales. :)

Mails deleted on the iPad shouldn't affect them elsewhere. That's how my roadrunner account works anyways. Maybe a synced account will behave differently? Not totally sure on that.

You can setup email accounts on the iPad that can be any ISP or whatever so you should be able to read emails right on the iPad using the built in email program. Pretty sure anyways.

Bought the 32GB Air on Superbowl Sunday.

This thing ROCKS!!!

I've used up almost 10 gigs of space and that doesn't even include my complete iTunes library. Glad I bought the 32GB model.

Thanks for all your input guys! ;)

I may be around the forums with a few ?'s but so far I just keep figuring out things as I go. :apple:
