I'm not used to just shutting the MacBook Air "lid" and walking away (coming from a PC :) ) but the habit is slowly developing.

Sleep mode is great in Macs for short term travel.

One thing I did like about my old PC laptops was that you could select what happens when you shut the lid...

Maybe am used to it, but my Windows laptop seems to be easier in this regard.

If you want the Air to go into clamshell mode, what do you do now? is not immediately obvious. My Windows laptop, I just tell it, Lid down = Display off only, and the machine stays powered on.

Another easier thing, sometimes I just want the machine to go to sleep WITHOUT closing the lid. I go make breakfast but I will be using it soon and don't want to "wear out" the hinge. Air: menu-click-select-click-click or Power button then answer the question. My Windows laptop: Fn+Esc, BAM! that's it.

if you want your computer to go into clamshell mode just plug in the cable. why would you want it screen off but power on when you close it?

i remember one of my PCs that did this and it would be hotter than the sun when i got back to it.
