I think if you asked the majority of users what they care most about - a smooth experience without UI lag everywhere, or compatibility with the latest apps and updates that are iOS 8 only, they'd choose the former. Moreso when you consider how few apps the average person installs on their devices.

I'd think they would prefer for their devices to work as intended. EG, upgrading to iOS 8 on other devices seems to break traditional iCloud document syncing forcing an upgrade. People care about features as well, which is indicated by the number of people who upgrade every year. People also care about security, which is often neglected in older iOS releases.

How about an ipad mini 1? Worth the upgrade or not? Haven't read anyone upgrading.

Still a fairly new product.

And still being sold, I believ!

It's just okay with a clean install. Frustrating lag in Safari with lots of tabs open, and some of the other symptoms I see here, but okay a lot of the time. But okay is a little disappointing, ya know?

My iPad 2 was painfully slow, almost unusable with iOS 8 and 8.1, but then I wiped it clean and started over, reinstalling apps manually, and leaving a lot more empty space on it. The difference is night and day. It works great now.

We have two ipad 2s in the house and both seem to be running fine with the latest OS. We did do a complete safari cache clear, a reset network settings, and made sure that unused features were truly turned OFF since upgrading the OS seems to turn things ON that you don't want.

Weird...but ours are running fine.

I did a clean install and started from scratch and within a week it was slow. I did a reset all settings the a week ago, and its a lot better. Animations still stutter at times, and safari and mail are slower than iOS 7 and sometimes third party apps seem to have a pause after pressing the icon.

Good comments from everyone. I'm interested to see what folks have to say about 8.1.1

8.1.1 is not back to 7.1.2 speeds, but there is less stuttering, less keyboard lag, safari works better, less instability and fluidity. Some apps seem a little faster.

I watched a video of a 4S on Beta 1 of 8.2, compared to a 4S on 8.1.1 and there was a marked improvement, so fingers crossed that improvement translates into an improvement on the iPad 2!

I also have an iPad 2 and not sure if I should update it. Good to see the replies here. Thanks a lot to you guys.

Some people swear the iPhone 4 runs great on iOS7 too. It's all subjective. Whilst it may 'run fine' it will also be running significantly slower.
